Holly Joy Freeman
Miss Holly Joy Freeman, age 41, of LaGrange, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur. Holly was born February 9, 1975, in LaGrange, and is survived by her parents, Rev. Ellis and Janice Freeman; brother, Harold E. (Hank) Freeman III; sister and brother in-law, Hope and Ernie Dykes; niece, Jillian Hope Dykes, all of LaGrange; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harold E. and Joy Freeman, A. J. and Melba Bence; and nephews, Byron Dykes and Steven Dykes. The funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with the Reverend Anthony Hovey officiating. Mr. Edward Rowe
Mr. Edward Rowe, age 68, of Hogansville, passed away, Sunday, March 20, 2016, at West Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Rowe was born June 18, 1947, and was the son of the late Wyche and Nettie Keith Rowe. An Air Force veteran, he received a Purple Heart for his service during the Vietnam War, he was Baptist by faith, was a member of the American Legion and the NRA, and was employed as a draftsman for Southwire Corporation for a number of years. Survivors include his daughter and son in-law, Dana and Brian Ayers of Buchanan; sons, David Rowe of Hogansville and Michael Rowe of Stockbridge; and his former wife and close friend, Linda Moon, of Stockbridge. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Dr. Clinton Hughes will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 Tuesday night. Mrs. Wilma Hatley
Mrs. Wilma Faulkner Hatley, age 87, of Grantville, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Mrs. Hatley was born March 4, 1929, in Cleburne County, Alabama, daughter of the late Jim and Lillie Skinner Faulkner. A resident of Coweta County most of her life, she was Baptist by faith and retired from Alenco Corporation in Peachtree City. Her love for her sons was the most important part of her life and she enjoyed completing jigsaw puzzles and working in her yard. Survivors include her son, Brian Keith Holtzclaw and his wife, Cyndi of Newnan; sisters, Bernice Graham of Fayetteville, Betty Prescott of Pine Mountain; brothers, Willie Faulkner and Alfred Faulkner, both of Newnan; grandson, Matthew Calhoun of Grantville; and Glennie Bailey who she loved as a granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her son, Roger Holtzclaw. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend L.B. Rooks and the Reverend Dan Odom will officiate and interment will be in the Grantville Cemetery. Mr. James K. Shelnutt
Mr. James K. Shelnutt, age 77, of Hogansville, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Hospice LaGrange. Mr. Shelnutt was born March 30, 1938, in Heard County, son of the late James Rufus Shelnutt and Julia Prince Shelnutt. A veteran of service in the U.S. Navy, he had lived in Hogansville for 42 years and was retired from James River Corporation in Newnan. He was a member of the American Legion and was a member and deacon of Highland Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughters and sons in-law, Kathy and Sam Brawner of LaGrange, Karen and Richard Shelnutt, Penny and Frank Willingham, all of Hogansville; son, Kenneth Yearta of Hogansville; brother, Terry Shelnutt of Franklin; 9 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Laster Shelnutt. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, at Highland Baptist Church. Mrs. Aileen Miller, age 88, of LaGrange, passed away on March 21, 2016 at the Hospice LaGrange. Mrs. Miller was born on November 27, 1927 in Chatsworth, Georgia to the late Clarence Ray and Sarah Teague Ray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Valentine Miller and a son, Stuart Bryon Miller. Survivors include her son, Dr. William B. Miller and his wife Cindy; grandchildren, Kristin Hill (Chad), Marisa Nihill (Matt) and Will Miller (Karen); great grandchild, Kiaya Hill. Mr. William “Mon” “Stack” McQueen, Jr., of West Point, GA, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Midtown Hospital, Columbus, GA. Mr. William McQueen, Jr., the son of William McQueen, Sr. and Marie Frazier Hutchinson, was born December 31, 1977 in Chambers County, AL. On Sunday, March 13, 2016, before dawn, God sent his angles on Hwy. 103 to bring his son home. At an early age, William accepted Christ and joined the New Zion Baptist Church. In later years, he united with the Jehovah Baptist Church, Whitesville, GA, under the leadership of Rev. Michael Slaughter, Sr. William, as he was referred to many by the nickname, “Mon” or “Stack”, received his education in the Troup County Schools. He loved playing basketball and side line coaching his sons’ football games. He instilled obedience to his sons, sisters and cousins. “Stack” inspired all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Curley McQueen, Barbara McQueen and Genell Frazier. He leaves to cherish his memories: two precious sons, Lorenzo and Adrian Davidson, West Point, GA; his devoted father, William McQueen, Jr. (Ann), West Point, GA; a dear and loving mother, Marie F. Mrs. Mahoney was born March 14, 1936 in Greeley, NE, daughter of the late Thomas Nealon and Marie Hansen Nealon. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Anthony Mahoney, brother, Jack Nealon of Omaha, NE, sister, Ruth Barrett of Omaha, NE, sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ag (Dick) Finnerty of Hastings, NE. Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Ann Mahoney of LaGrange and Mary (Chuck) Davis of Lawrenceville, GA; sons, Dennis (Debbie) Mahoney of Flovilla, GA and Martin L.
