Mrs. Robbie Chase

Mrs. Robbie Denise Chase, age 54, of Hogansville, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at her home.
Mrs. Chase was born October 31, 1961, in LaGrange, had lived in Hogansville since 1977, and had been employed at William Carter Company. Robbie is especially remembered for her sense of humor and for the love that she shared with her family and friends. Survivors include her son, Curtis Wayne Chase of Hogansville; her mother, Dottie Hall of Bowdon; sisters and brothers in-law, Gena and John Cornell of Caret, VA, Susan and Randy Kilgore of Lynn Haven, FL; brother and sister in-law, David and Michelle Hall of Carrollton. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ronald (Ronnie) Chase; son, William R. Chase, Jr.; father, Wayne Crocker; and sister. Sandra Faye Shockley. Robert B. Woodall, Jr.

Mr. Robert B. Woodall Jr. of Jonesboro, GA passed away March 17, 2016. Memorial services will be held Friday, April 29, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Jonesboro First United Methodist Church at 142 S. Main Street, Jonesboro, GA. He is survived by his wife Tillie (Matilda Adams), his daughter, Rachel and her husband Eric Thomas of Deep River, CT, and his son, Bob (Robert B. Woodall III) and his wife Peggy of Charlottesville, VA. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Browne; his sister Emily McCleskey of Manchester, GA pre-deceased him. Robert was born in Woodland GA on November 14th, 1923. He served in the Army Signal Corp in the China-Burma-India Theater during WWII. He attended West Georgia College, where he met his wife, Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro, and Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville. He taught mathematics, phys ed, and coached basketball at McCaysville High School and North Clayton High School in College Park. He worked for the US Dept. of Agriculture in Atlanta, Raleigh, and Washington, DC until his retirement. He and Tillie returned to Jonesboro, GA in 1984 where he was an active member of the Jonesboro United Methodist Church. Robert enjoyed meeting and knowing people, and continued to check in with friends and family by phone until the end. He loved walking and hiking, doing his part to clean up the roads on his walks to the post office and completing the entire Georgia portion of the Appalachian Trail and the 184-mile C & O Canal. Thomas Howell Porter, Jr.

Thomas Howell Porter, Jr. age 87, of Columbus, GA formerly of Shiloh, GA died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Morningside Assisted Living, Columbus, GA. Funeral services for Mr. Porter was held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 21, 2016 at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Hamilton. Burial was in the Old Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Shiloh, GA. Mr. Porter was born December 24, 1928 in Atlanta, GA the son of Thomas H. Porter, Sr. and Euna Rainwater Porter. He was a graduate of Georgia State University and held an engineering degree from Southern Tech. Mr. Porter was a retired engineer with the Coca Cola Company in Atlanta and a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He was a member of the Harris County Lions Club. Mr. Porter was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pine Mountain, where he served as a longtime deacon and Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Evelyn C. Porter of Columbus, son Thomas H. Porter, III and his wife Barbara of Watkinsville, GA; daughter Peggy Hill of Shiloh brother Roger Porter of Anderson, SC; Elaine Albertson of Lincolnton, NC; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Donna Lee Dunn

Donna Lee Dunn, age 86, of Pine Mountain, Ga., passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 at West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange. Graveside services was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Pine Mountain Cemetery. Her daughter-in-law Sherry Turner officiated. The family received friends prior to the service, from 9:30 until 10:30 am Saturday at Cox Funeral Home in Hamilton. Mrs. Dunn was born November 11, 1929 in Fork Township, Michigan, the daughter of Clayton Glen Hall and Audie Mae Gardner Hall. She was a former resident of Florida and moved to Pine Mountain after her retirement as a Telephone Operator for AT&T. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, had attended The Joy Club at Pine Mountain First Baptist Church, and thoroughly enjoyed arts and craft-work. She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Dunn; a brother, Harlow Hall and a sister, Marilyn Hall. Survivors include her two sons, Randy Turner and his wife Rebecca of Pine Mountain, and Mark Turner and his wife Sherry of Waverly Hall; three grandchildren, Danielle Harmon, John Alan Jacobs, and Steven J. Turner; three great-grandchildren, Paxton Harmon, Kailey Turner, and Jacob Turner; a great-great granddaughter, Sara Rose York; and a sister, Karen Verderese and her husband Leon of Sweetwater, TN. Richard Russell Callahan, Sr.

Richard Russell Callahan, age 78, of West Point, GA died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, GA. Memorial services for Mr. Callahan will be announced at a later date. Mr. Callahan was born January 6, 1937 in Waycross, GA the son of Carl Glenn Callahan and Sally Ethel Moody Callahan. He was a retired Commercial Truck Driver with Joyner Trucking. Mr. Callahan had also worked for Walmart in Columbus. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Melody Lakes Baptist Church, Waverly Hall. He was preceded in death by his wife Ernie Ann Kraus Callahan and brother Glenn Callahan. He is survived by his children Elfrieda “Effie” Callahan, Michele Debra Callahan, Richard Russell Callahan, Jr. Raymond Callahan, Michael Boyd and Eric Everett Callahan; sisters Jan Boyd and Elaine Ruger; brothers Robert Callahan, Larry Callahan, Bryan Callahan, 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

James Curtis “Pee Wee” Huzzie Jr.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. James Curtis “Pee Wee” Huzzie Jr., of Horace King Street was held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 2:00PM at the Central Baptist Church on Hamilton Road. Rev. Michael Stevenson officiated. Burial was in the Southview Cemetery. Mr. Huzzie, a native of Troup County, was born July 21, 1941 and was the son of the late James Curtis Huzzie Sr. and Lizzie Mae Russell Huzzie. He attended the Thomastown School and joined the Central Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. H. S. Reeves. He was retired from Milliken and Company after 35 years as mechanic. He was also known as the neighborhood barber and automobile mechanic. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 57 years, Rosa Mae Martin Huzzie, LaGrange; three children: son, Rev. Quinton Orlando Huzzie (Emily); devoted daughter and caregiver, Carol Valencia Huzzie; son, Curtis LaKeith Huzzie (Sandrico), all of LaGrange; ten grandchildren (two whom he reared): LaToya Huzzie and SheQuita Huzzie, Stacy McKinney, LaKesha Johnson (Octagus), LaTissa Huzzie, Wayne Robinson, Chiquita Robinson, Dontae Morgan, Malik Morgan, Thaddeus Dunlap, RaMaris Dunlap, all of LaGrange; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: Julian Martin (Bernice), Detroit, MI; Wendell Martin (Linda), Jensen Beach, FL; special friends: Robert Glen Crowder, Mountville, GA; George Durham, Donald Cotton, Charlie “Sonny Boy” McCamey, and Tyniece Dukes, all of LaGrange; many adopted grandkids, special nieces, nephews, and friends.In addition to his parents, “Pee Wee” was preceded in death by his daughter, LaVelta Bonita Huzzie Robinson; three sisters: Mary Russell, Emma Green, and Minnie Bell Huzzie; and one brother, Robert Huzzie.
