Sammy Wynn

Mr. Samuel Charles (Sammy) Wynn, age 57, of Newnan, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Mr. Wynn was born November 13, 1958, in Anderson, SC, had lived in Georgia since 1981, and was a sales representative for Mutt and Jeff Enterprises.  He loved football and was an avid Clemson fan. Survivors include his step-children, Taylor and Jett; his mother, Linda Duncan of Belton, SC; brothers, David Wynn of Newnan and Billy Frank Wynn of Belton; sister, Elaine Martin also of Belton; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 20, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. Reverend Aaron McCollough officiated. Gregory David Hammett

Gregory David Hammett, age 55, passed away on August 17, 2016 at the WellStar West Medical Center. Mr. Hammett was born to the late Leroy Hammett and Dorothy Ann Bozeman Hammett Cornwell in Franklin, Georgia on February 1, 1961. Survivors include his sisters, Lisa Cannon and Sheila Bearden; half-sisters, Christie Daniel, Ashley Hammett, and Sabrina Hammett; half-brothers, Justin Hammett, Josh Hammett, and Robert Hammett; step-father and his wife,  Hugh and Sandra Cornwell;  special friend Margie Byrom. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel with Rev. Neil Stitch officiating. Hettie Wilkerson

Mrs. Hettie Wilkerson, of West Point, GA passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Dr. Hospice of Georgia, Riverdale, GA. Mrs. Hettie Julia Wilkerson was born on July 9, 1916, in LaFayette, Alabama to the parentage of the late Dan (Paw-Sam) and Cornelia (Big Momma) Trammell. God gave his child her wings and called her home, after blessing her with 100 years of life on July 26, 2016. Mrs. Wilkerson accepted Christ at the early age of six years old while attending State Line Missionary Baptist Church. Later, she united with Saint John Baptist Church where she begin ushering when she was 17 years old. “Mrs. Hettie”, as she was affectionately known by many, served as President of the Usher Board, Supervisor of Young Women Association, Red Circle, Sunday School Teacher, and Chairman of the Georgia Missionary Society until she could no longer serve. On July 9, 2016, Mrs. Wilkerson celebrated her 100th birthday where she received many honors. Her honors included a letter from President Barrack Obama, signed by him and Michelle, a proclamation from the State of Alabama, Chambers, County declaring July 9th “Hettie Wilkerson Day”, a proclamation presented by the Mayor Pro-Tem of the City of West Point, GA, and a plaque from her best friend Charlotte Grace, calling her the World’s Greatest “100 Year Old Best Friend”. Mrs. Wilkerson was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Wilkerson; two sisters, Beatrice Trammell and Mary Hill; three brothers, Albert Trammell, William Trammell, and Calvin Trammell.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Anthony DeNorris(Shirley) Trammell of Rex, Georgia; a niece, Mary Jo Billingslea, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two nephews, George (Mary) Trammell and Charles Trammell both of Lanett, Alabama, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Hettie Wilkerson were held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at noon at the St. John Baptist Church, Lanett, AL. Ministers: Rev. Charles Trammell, Pastor, Rev. Walter L. Darden, Eulogist, Rev. Gary L. Fanning, Min. Winston Fanning, officiated. Interment followed in the St. John Cemetery

Nicholas R. “Nick” Perry

Mr. Nicholas R. “Nick” Perry, of West Point, GA passed away Friday, July 29, 2016. Nicholas Rodriquez Perry was born on August 4, 1980 to the parents of Anita and Aaron Smith in LaGrange, GA. He departed this life on July 29, 2016. Nick accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. W. T. Edmondson. He often fellowshipped with the Three Life Ministry, LaGrange, GA. Nick was a humble man who loved his children, family, friends and sports. He loved to converse with all that he met and he would always find a way to encourage and speak knowledge into everyone. His favorite pastime was spending time with his children and speaking about them to all who would listen. He had an unforgettable smile and an infectious laugh that would brighten your day. “Nick”, as he was known to many, was a 1998 alumni of Troup County High School where he participated in football and wrestling. He was known for his talent on the football field and he loved the sport. Nick was a former employee of the City of West Point, GA and Milliken. He was currently employed by NOK Funderburg in LaGrange, GA. He was preceded in death by his brother, who he loved dearly, Joseph McFarlin; aunts, Alice McFarlin and Willene Cameron; uncles, Tommie McFarlin, John McFarlin, and Jim Wallace. Deborah Jean Strickland-Huguley 

Ms. Deborah Jean Strickland-Huguley, of West Point, GA passed Saturday, July 30, 2016 at West Georgia Hospice, LaGrange, GA. Deborah was a product of the West Point Public School System, where she was a member of the 1973 graduating class of West Point High School. After high school Deborah attended West Georgia technical College where she received a Diploma in Accounting. Deborah worked faithfully in the church until her passing. She was preceded in death by parents, Henry (Jr.) and Minnie (Heard) Strickland. Patsy Gearldine Burgess

Patsy Gearldine Burgess, age 85, of LaGrange, GA passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Hospice LaGrange. She was born May 21, 1931 in Heard County, GA, daughter of the late Thomas E. and Masouri A. Lester. Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Elton Burgess and son, Billy Lee Burgess. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Sharon Burgess of Franklin, GA; grandson, Daniel Shelnutt of LaGrange, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Jerrell and Betty Lester of Newnan, GA and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The Gathering of Family and Friends was held on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. The Funeral Service was held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 20, 2016 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Interment followed in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange, GA. Hugh Neal Brooks

Mr. Hugh Neal Brooks, Sr., age 79, of LaGrange, GA passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Wellstar West Georgia Health. Mr. Brooks was born July 14, 1937 in LaGrange, GA to the late C.H. Brooks and Martha E. Daniel Brooks. He was a mechanic at Live Oak Milliken. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn Fay Brooks and a son, Neal Brooks, Jr. Survivors include his daughters, Brandie Irwin (Randy) Irwin and Belinda Jones; son, Robert (Alma) Brooks; nine grandchildren; brother, Charlie Brooks; other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life service was held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.  The gathering of family and friends was on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
