Ardell Davidson Winston
Mrs. Ardell Davidson Winston, the daughter of the late Mr. Nathan Davidson and Mrs. Susie M. Davidson, was born on November 7, 1931 in Gold Hill, Alabama. As family and loved ones looked on, God opened the Pearly Gates and called down to her to follow His voice and rise up to her eternal Heavenly home on August 22, 2016. Ardell was raised with her other six siblings and enjoyed her early childhood while attending the Lee County Public Schools. She devoted her life to Christ at an early age and joined Macedonia Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and tithing member all her life. Eventually her parents relocated back to Troup County, GA (Hogg Mountain Community) when she was 14 years old and continued her education with Troup County Schools. She also chose Emanuel Chapel CME as her local church so she could worship with her husband and children. At Emanuel she participated with the kitchen committee where she often prepared vegetables, cornbread, and many of her delicious pound cakes and more. She practiced and sang with the Choir for many years and served in many other capacities. Some of her fondest memories in life were when Rev. T.D. Brown was pastor and he carried the church members on several out of state trips. She was united in holy matrimony to the late John T. Winston for over 50 years until his passing in 2002. To this union six children were born: Thomas, William, Victor, Terry, Dexter, and Valerie. After raising her children to school age, she began working as a domestic with several families in the West Point area. Later she began a career as an employee of West Point Pepperell Mills in Shawmut and Riverdale, Alabama. From there she returned to school and received her certificate in nursing assistance from Meadows College, which led to a career in private duty nursing with the elderly. Throughout her life, Ardell was a mother to her children and to her nieces and nephews. Her home was always open to not only her nieces and nephews but also to her husband’s family. When her children were fed, everyone else’s children were fed also. She took pride in her baking and sewing skills. Born with a creative hand, she labored many days making beautiful dresses for her girls, and preparing delicious deserts for her family. Ardell had a sweet spirit and would always lend a helping hand whenever she could. She was preceded in death by: two sons, William and Dexter; brothers Horace, Joseph, and John McCord; sisters Fannie Lou Johnson, Alberta Lockhart, Ruth Potts.
Cherishing her memories are her sons, Mr. Thomas Winston, Mr. Victor Winston, College Park, GA; daughters Ms. Terry Winston Bonner, Jonesboro, GA and Mrs. Valerie (John) Tatum, Detroit, MI; grandchildren, Dr. Charles (Angelica) King, Jr. and Mr. Corbin King, Albany, GA; Mrs. Tara (Alford)Bell, Silver Spring, MD; great grandsons, Brody, Charles III, and Elijah; a dear cousin, Mrs. Gwendolyn A.
