Kathleen Willis

Kathleen Faye Holbrook Willis went home to be with the Lord in the early morning of Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the age of 80. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, and she spent her entire life serving God, her family, and her friends. She was born on January 19, 1936 to Jacob Andrew Holbrook and Clara Martin Holbrook in Greensboro, AL. She had three siblings, Doc Martin Holbrook, Andrew James Holbrook and Lillian Louise Holbrook. She attended school in Greensboro, where she met the love of her life, Jimmie Love Willis. They were married at First Baptist Church of Greensboro, AL on February 7, 1952. After graduating from Greensboro High School, she attended Howard College in Birmingham, AL until the birth of her first child in 1955. Over the next 50 plus years, her husband Jimmie was a lifetime minister of the Southern Baptist faith and together they served the following pastorates: Old Town Creek Baptist and Harmony Baptist, both in Moulton, AL; Jayess Baptist, Jayess, MS; Harmony Baptist, Hazlehurt, MS; Eastside Baptist, Marianna, FL; Ariton Baptist, Ariton, AL; Franklin Rd. Baptist, LaGrange; Flintstone Baptist, Flintstone, GA; Southwest LaGrange Baptist, LaGrange; and served interim pastorates at Grantville Baptist, Hunter Rd. Baptist, Glenn Baptist and Franklin Road Baptist. She was a devoted minister’s wife, active in many committees as well as teaching Sunday School and singing in the church choir.  Jimmie and Kathleen were founding members of New Hope Baptist Church, and the fellowship hall at the church was dedicated in their honor. She attended Midsouth Beauty School In Rossville, GA from 1972 to 1975 and became a Cosmetology instructor. She was a hair stylist for many years. Later she worked for American Kidney Services from 2003 until May 2016 at the age of 80. One of her biggest passions in life was traveling while ministering to others. She organized and conducted many group tours all over the world, always serving the Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie Love Willis, daughter Elizabeth (Libby) Willis Gilley, her parents and her siblings. Kathleen is survived by daughters Clara Willis Byrd (Bob) of Lebanon, TN, Kathy Willis Carroll (Steve) of Acworth, GA, Wendy Willis Parmer (Philip) of LaGrange, GA and Regina Willis Simma (Bachir) of Dacula. GA.  She was “Sweetmama” to her nine grandchildren, Summer Deal(Wiley), Jerod Gilley, Nathan Gilley(Bethany), Jacob Carroll(Jenna), Lance Parmer(Lauren), Lucas Parmer (fiancé Miranda Bauers), Chase Carroll, Eli Simma, and Miriam Simma and five great-grandchildren, Lilly Grace Deal, Elizabeth Gilley, Lennox Deal, Collins Parmer, and Lydia Gilley, six step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, at New Hope Baptist Church. Rev. Michael Hornsby officiated. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to New Hope Baptist Church.

Jesse M. Chipman

Mr. Jesse M. Chipman, Jr., age 81, of Hogansville, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016, at Hospice LaGrange. Mr. Chipman was born February 22, 1935, in Hamilton, son of the late Jesse and Leone Lewis Chipman. A resident of Troup County most of his life, he served in the National Guard, was a Mason, and was Baptist by faith. He retired as a truck driver from West Point Pepperell after 30 years of service and then was employed as a security officer at Carter’s in Hogansville. Survivors include his wife, Janie Gaddy Chipman of Hogansville; daughters and sons in-law, Debra and Phillip Collins, Vickie and Larry Bible, all of LaGrange, Sandra and Bill Shaw of Hogansville; sister, Phyllis Fincher of Franklin; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his sons, Kenneth Lamar Chipman and Benjamin Morgan Chipman; grandson, Eric Collins; and great-grandsons, Ben Mills and Alex Mills. The funeral service was conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Sheila Bearden

Mrs. Sheila Hammett Bearden, age 54, of the Corinth Community of Heard County, passed away, Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Hospice LaGrange. Mrs. Bearden was born March 5, 1962, in LaGrange, daughter of the late Roy Hammett and Ann Bozeman Hammett Cornwell. She lived in the Hogansville area most of her life and was employed at Duracell in LaGrange for a number of years. Survivors include her husband, Stuart Bearden of Corinth; her son, Jeremy Cannon and his significant other, Ronald Telligman of Atlanta; sister, Lisa Cannon of Franklin; half-sisters, Christie Daniel of LaGrange, Ashley Hammett and Sabrina Hammett of Corinth; half-brothers, Justin Hammett and Josh Hammett of Corinth; and her step-father, Hugh Cornwell of LaGrange. A memorial service was conducted at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 30, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Reverend Neil Stich officiated. Bobby Hall

Mr. Robert T. (Bobby) Hall, age 69, of Hogansville, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016, at the home of his son. Mr. Hall was born December 29, 1946, in Hogansville, son of the late Jesse Hall, Sr. and Edna Reason Hall. A resident of Troup County most of his life, he was employed for many years as a mechanic at Milliken and Company Elm City Division and was also a former employee of Buffalo Rock Company. He was Baptist by faith and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Survivors include his wife, Lugene Hall; son and daughter in-law, Thomas and Megan Hall; daughters and sons in-law, Brandi and D’Andre Reaves, Sekeeta and William McCain, all of Hogansville; former son in-law, Shane Dickson of Arizona; brother, Leroy Hall of Alabama; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Tumlin and his brother, Jesse Hall, Jr. The funeral service was conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29 in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Marvin Purgason officiated and interment was in Hillview East Cemetery in LaGrange. George Russell “Jim” Davis

Mr. George Russell “Jim” Davis, age 70, of LaGrange, passed away on August 27, 2016 at the Hospice LaGrange. Mr. Davis was born on October 29, 1945 in LaGrange to the late Gaffany Watson Davis and Parrie Lee Green Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Louvine Clements and Annis Wright. Mr. Davis worked for Newman Construction as a Finish Carpenter. He was an avid fisherman until his health began to decline. He enjoyed Pro Wrestling, Boxing, Football and NASCAR. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Jerry Ann Browning Davis of LaGrange; son, James Michael Davis of LaGrange; brothers, Bill Davis (Ruby) of LaGrange and Milton Davis (Linda) of LaGrange; sister, Betty Henry of LaFayette, Georgia; grandchildren, Haydan Bryant Davis of LaGrange, Heidi Bridget Davis of LaGrange and Holly Brooke Foster of Hogansville; great grandchild, Paisley Rose Dunn; daughter in law, Tabatha Heard of Hogansville; sisters in law and brother in law, June Brown of West Point, Dianne Hood of LaGrange, Velma McCann (Elton) of Pine Mountain; brothers in law and sisters in law, Richard Browning of West Point, Billy Browning (Debra) of LaGrange, John Browning (Wilma) of Pine Mountain; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 4:00 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel. Belinda Joyce Ogletree

Mrs. Belinda Joyce Ogletree, age 60, passed away on August 29, 2016 at the West Georgia Hospice. Mrs. Ogletree was the daughter of the late Charles Whited and Erma Smith Whited. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Chris Ogletree. Survivors include her daughters, Stephanie Marie Coon (Valmer), Rebecca Raymundo (Erik), Christian Ogletree (Sacarias), Felicia Travis (Elizabeth); brother, Steven Whited (Carol); half-brother, Rick Whited; 11 grandchildren; extended family and friends. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 4:00 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel with Rev. Neil Stich officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Shadowlawn Cemetery following the service.
