Ken Duncan

Mr. John Kenneth Duncan, age 59, of Luthersville, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016, of injuries received in a truck accident in Troup County. Mr. Duncan was born June 2, 1957, in Newnan, son of the late Murray Pennington Duncan and Hazel Jeanette Speights Duncan. A graduate of Palmetto High School, he was a member of Palmetto Masonic Lodge #74 and was attending Moreland First Baptist Church. He was employed by Georgia Power Company and was an avid outdoorsman. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Deborah Duncan of Luthersville; sons and daughters in-law, John and Meredith Duncan and their son Landon David of Spanaway, WA, Robert and Melissa Duncan and their daughter Abigail Lynn of Sharpsburg, Mike and Marie Duncan and their children Grace Rebecca and William Michael of Grantville; brothers and sisters, Glen Duncan of Newnan, Ellen Kelley and her husband Marion of Dayton, OH, Diane Farmer and her husband of Powder Springs, Wayne Duncan and his wife Joan of Alpharetta; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Daniel Ausbun officiated and interment was in the Luthersville Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Monday night. David Haynes

Mr. David Haynes, age 57, of Hogansville, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016, at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.

Born March 13, 1959 in Newnan, Mr. Haynes was a lifelong resident of Heard County.  He was a graduate of Heard County High School and was Baptist by faith. Survivors include his mother, Mary Haynes; brother and sister in-law, Donald and Barbara Haynes, all of Hogansville; and his nieces and nephews, Mike and Michelle Webb, Jimmy and Mandy Haynes, Kelly and Rodney Prickett, all of LaGrange, and Dereck Haynes of Cartersville. He was preceded in death by his father, Green Haynes, brother, Jerry Wayne Haynes, and sister, Mary Jane Webb. The funeral service was conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 25, in the Chapel of Claude A. James L. Spain

James L. Spain, age 87, of Fortson, Ga., passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, Ga. A memorial service was held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Bigham Chapel United Methodist Church. Rev. Dan MacMinn officiated. Mr. Spain was born April 16, 1929, in Columbus, Ga., the son of James Frederick Spain and Susie Mae Sanes Spain. He served his country during the Korean War as a Master Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Spain later retired as an Air Traffic Controller, having worked in Columbus, Atlanta and Fort Rucker, Al., for the Federal Aviation Administration. He attended Bigham Chapel United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Elizabeth Spain. Survivors include a daughter, Melanie S. Foster of Columbus; two sons, James R. Spain of Fortson, and Timothy C. Spain of Columbus; two sisters, Evelyn Zachary and Connie Mirabella, both of Fortson; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Kathleen C. Coe

Kathleen C. Coe, age 89 of Woodbury, Ga died Sunday, September 18, 2016 at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Coe were held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Cedar Rock Baptist Church in Woodbury. Serving as pallbearers was her grandchildren with the burial in the Cedar Rock church cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday evening at Cox Funeral Home in Manchester, GA. Mrs. Coe was born March 22, 1927 in Woodbury, GA, the daughter of the late Hoyt and Nellie Belle Cooley. She was retired from Nabisco in Woodbury and a charter member of Cedar Rock Baptist Church. She has been called “Mama Coe” by churches, family and friends all over Georgia where she started the Coe Family gospel singing group as a young woman. She is survived by her husband of over 70 years, J. P. Coe of Woodbury; children Alvin Coe (Patricia), Ann Coe Allen (W.A.) Teresa Peterson (Glenn) all of Woodbury and Bobby Coe (Patti) of Thomaston. She is also survived by 3 sisters; Betty Gay, Janelle Whitten both of Woodbury and Wilma Coe of Columbus; grandchildren are Melynda Coe, Bobby Joe Allen, Sherry Childree, Wendy Smith, Michael Coe, Tara Coe and Daniel Peterson; great-grandchildren are Chris Fuller, Jonathan Fuller, Jessica Barentine, Bridgett Allen, Britney Ivy, Kent Williamson, Levi Phillips, Anna Phillips, Jaden Smith and Wyatt Coe; great-great-grandchildren are Cason Holloway, Elijah Ivy, Dallas Ivy, Mariah Fuller, Greyson Phillips, Wyatt Allen, Elle Mae Barentine. Elaine Anne Utsch

Mrs. Elaine Anne Utsch, age 80, of LaGrange, passed away on September 25, 2016 at her residence. Mrs. Utsch was born in Hamilton, Ohio to the late John Dallis and Agnes Kosik Dallis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother George Dallis. Survivors include her husband,  Edward Utsch,  sons, John Utsch (Sara), Joseph Utsch;  daughters; Margaret Morton (Jim), Elizabeth George (TiGi); brothers, James and Michael Dallis; seven grandchildren, Jamie Zubernis, Christian Zubernis,  Charlie Utsch,  MaeMae Utsch, Amelia Utsch, Henry Utsch and Tattianna George; extended family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at the Stretch Funeral Home in Havertown, PA. David Eugene Foster

David Eugene Foster ended his journey on this earth on September 19, 2016. He was born in LaGrange, GA and was a lifelong resident. He was a much beloved Son, Brother, Uncle and friend. David was the founder and owner of Foster’s Auto Sales on Hamilton Road for more than 40 years. He was an avid businessman and an advocate and support of many. David loved cars, cows, watching things grow and his German Shepherd Mia, who misses him dearly. He had a kind heart, cared about people, making things work and helping to provide what people needed to survive in this life. David was a long term member of Western Heights Baptist Church and a graduate of Columbus State University. David was preceded in death by his Father, James Morgan Foster; his Mother, Mary Ann Kelley Foster; his older Brother and dear friend, Stanley Morgan Foster, Sr. David is survived by his Brother, Robert Kelley Foster of LaGrange, GA ; Sister, Rose Foster Smith (Mark) of LaGrange, GA.; Nephew, Phillip Alexander Smith of Fort Collins, Colorado; his Niece, Amelia Lauren Smith Sinclair (Duncan) of Columbus, GA; Nephew, Stanley Morgan Foster, Jr. (Marianne) and Great-Nephews, Johnathon Edward Foster and Thomas David Foster of Cusseta, Al. and many Cousins, Aunts, Uncles and Friends. Earnest “Pop” Stephens Jr.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Earnest “Pop” Stephens Jr., of LaGrange, was held on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 11:00AM at the Saint Paul Baptist Church on Union Street. Rev. Crawford Strozier officiated. Burial was in Restlawn Memory Gardens. Mr. Stephens, a native of LaGrange, was born December 15, 1940 and was the oldest child of the late Ernest and Emma Stephens. He attended school in the Troup County School system and retired after 30 years of service as a long haul truck driver with West Point Stevens. He later started his own charter bus business. He was a 33 degree Mason of the Sons of LaGrange 537 Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of LaGrange for 44 years. He was a devoted member and Deacon of Solomon Grove Baptist Church.
