Geraldine Roberts Thrash, age 85, of Tucker, Ga., passed away Friday, September 16, 2016, at her residence. Graveside services were held on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Crouch Cemetery, in Gay, Ga. Pastor Jan Oglesbee officiated. The family received friends at the Funeral Home on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 4:006:00 PM. Mrs. Thrash was born November 23, 1930, in LaFayette, Ga., the daughter of William Bradford Roberts and Elizabeth Thompson Roberts. Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Robert N. Thrash, of Tucker, Ga., a daughter, Teresa Thrash, of Gay, Ga., a son, Ted Thrash and his wife, Diane of Knoxville, Tn., six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. William Marion “Billy” Caldwell, Sr.
William Marion “Billy” Caldwell, Sr., age 79, of the Cove Community, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Doctors Hospice in Fayetteville, Ga. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Cove Baptist Church. William Brown officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery, with the following served as pallbearers; Austin Hobbs, Andrew Hobbs, Will Caldwell, Greg Brown, Frankie Brown, Kevin Brown, Lamar Brown, Bucky Brown, Buck Prather, and Chuck Caldwell. Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow members of the “Old Men’s Club”. “Mr. Billy”, as he was best known, was born November 26, 1936 in Talbotton, Ga., the son of William Patrick Caldwell and Maude Pauline Gilson Caldwell. He attended Manchester schools and afterwards served in the U. S. Army. He was actively involved in the ownership of several businesses, including farming and the operation of a heavy-equipment and construction business. His many friends often joked that his office was his regular seat in the Huddle House and Tant’s Café in Manchester. He was a member of Cove Baptist Church and the Meriwether County Cattleman’s Association. He was the organizer and host of a largely attended gathering of friends, which takes place on the Flint River and is known locally as “The Old Men’s Club.” Billy loved hosting this gathering and was well known for the Brunswick stew he prepared for the yearly event. He also enjoyed sitting in his swing and waving and talking to passersby who might stop for a chat. Above all though, he loved his family. His children and grandchildren were the highlight of his life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Kathy Caldwell, Carolyn Caldwell Strickland, Sandra Caldwell Cooke; and a brother, James Edward “Tom” Caldwell. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Fay Gibson Caldwell; his children, Sherry Womble (Michael) of Manchester, Beverly Bonner (Bill), Kim Hobbs (Greg) and Bill Caldwell, all of the Cove Community; two sisters, Patricia Styles of Manchester and Barbara Jean Blackwell (Eddie) of Franklin, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Michele Womble, Abby Bonner, Austin Hobbs, Andrew Hobbs, Marilee Caldwell, Will Caldwell, and Laura Dollar; and uncle, Ben Gilson (Frances) of Talbotton; and a very special friend, Buck Prather. Mrs. Daisy McGlown McClure, age 83, of Valley, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2016, at the Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama. Mrs. McClure was born on March 19, 1933 in Lanett, Alabama to the late Eddie Jackson McGlown and Bernice Louise Yates McGlown. Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 3:00 pm EDT at the Langdale United Methodist Church in Valley. Interment followed in Oakwood Cemetery, Lanett. The Rev. James Haskins officiated. Family received friends at the church until the service hour. Mrs. McClure is survived by her children, Robert (Ellen) McClure, Opelika, AL; Rhonda (Tony) Gibson; and Randy (Stacey) McClure, Valley; grandchildren, Mandy (Brad) Wideman, Trussville, AL; Leslie (Andrew) Leak, Valley; Allison McClure, Atlanta, GA; and Jacob McClure, Valley; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Lauren, and Rob Wideman, and Ansley and Drew Leak. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Franklin (Bobby) McClure; siblings, Margaret Adkins, John McGlown, Ruby Voss, Eddie B. (Speedy) McGlown, Mary Sue Smith, and Robert McGlown. Mrs. McClure was a member of Langdale United Methodist Church where she held numerous positions. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years and carrying on the legacy of the Bobby McClure Shepherding Ministry. She was previously employed as Office Manager for Dr. Atha in West Point, GA, and as a bookkeeper at Skinner Corporation. Mrs. McClure loved flowers, friends, and family. Everyone will miss her beautiful sweet smile, witty sense of humor, and warm hospitality. She will be most remembered as a devoted wife to her husband of 52 years, lovingly caring for her children, and being a wonderful “Maw Maw”. Charlie Frank Stephens, Sr.
Charlie Frank Stephens, Sr. “Bubba” Charlie was born April 2, 1935 to the late Freeman Stephens and Mattie Kate Davenport- Stephens. He attended Union Consolidated School in Gabbettville, Georgia; and his GED and Master Mechanic Certificate from Troup Tech. On May 30, 1970, Bubba married the love of his life, Gladys Benning Stephens. Charlie and Gladys celebrated 46 years of marriage. They have nine children. Charlie was a retired master mechanic and police officer. He had begun studying the Bible and enjoyed learning about Jehovah and his son, Jesus Christ; and his favorite song was ‘Life Without End – At Last’. Charlie Stephens, a very humble man. He loved to take apart and rebuild transmissions and motors (a master at that). He would plant his garden and share what he produced with anyone who would stop by and ask. He loved providing for his family and entertaining grandchildren and great grands, the loves of his life. On Friday, September 23, 2016, at his home; Charlie departed his life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Helen Stephens-Reid; and brother-in-law, Hildred Reid. Leaving to cherish his beautiful memories, his lovely wife, Gladys Stephens; nine beautiful children, Rockel A. Stephens, Melissa Stephens, Charlie F. Joe Henry Edmondson
Joe Henry Edmondson was born on July 4, 1957 in Antioch, Georgia to the late Ridley and Tommie Lou Edmondson. On Friday, September 23, 2016, he departed this life and ascended into Eternal Life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Brewer Edmondson; his sister, Minnie Hart; and three brothers, Jimmy Edmondson, Ridley ‘Jap’ Edmondson, and Charlie Roy Edmondson. Joe leaves to cherish his memories his children Tricia (Jeffery) Foster, Erozinis (Melodie) Edmondson, Stefanie James, Balencia Grissom, and Malaika Gordon; 13 grandchildren, Jer-Daija Traylor, Mycah Gordon, Shakira Owensby, NeKayla Traylor, Andrew Leak, Jamira Boleware, Adrian Traylor, Erozinis Edmondson II, Shaniah Foster, Zion Edmondson, Karrigen Grissom, Michael Williams, and King Gates; two sisters, Priscilla Williams and Leila Gray; five sisters-in-law, Linda F. Bell, Sylvia Brewer, Polly (Charles) Hall, Peggy Brewer and April (Clifford) Allen; two brothers-inlaw, Scott Brewer and Benjamin Brewer; and also loved by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. Bobbie Jean Scott
Mrs. Bobbie Jean Scott, age 82, of LaGrange, GA passed from this life to be with the Lord, on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at her home. Mrs. Scott was born December 28, 1933 in LaGrange, GA to the late Lewis Webster and Ellen Borders Webster. She was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square and was retired from Troup County School System Food Services. Mrs. Scott devoted her time and love to her family, whom will greatly miss her. Survivors include her husband, James Scott; daughters, Mary Ellen (Gary) Powell and Diane (Jimmy) Guy; step daughter, Gail (Daryl) Foster; granddaughter, Kristy (Lance) Morris; grandson, Scott Powell; step grandson, Clint Foster; great grandchildren, Hayley Morris, Guy Morris, and Reed Morris; two surrogate daughters, Judy Baker and Joan Rizzo; several cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were at 11:00am on Saturday, October 1, 2016 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Dr. Paul Baxter and Pastor Cade Farris officiated. The Gathering of Family and Friends was held at 10:00am until 11:00am at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial followed in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
