Joyce Harper Lipp

Joyce Harper Lipp, age 81, of Shiloh, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at her home. Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Community Chapel, Pine Mountain Valley. Pastor Rick Lipp officiated. Interment followed in the Pine Mountain Valley Church of God Cemetery. Josh Tracy, James Tracy, Brannon Kuykendall, Travis Gallion, Austin Eastman and Chris Tracy served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Toby Eastman and Johnny Kuykendall. Mrs. Lipp was born May 7, 1935, in Shiloh, the daughter of Troy Harper and Ruth Anderson Harper. She retired from Playtex International as a supervisor and was a member of the former Pine Mountain Valley Church of God. Mrs. Lipp was the widow of James F. Lipp whom she married in 1951. She loved children and found great joy in keeping her grandchildren as well as many other children from her community. Another great pleasure was cooking for others especially sharing her “World Famous Sausage and Biscuits”. Mrs. Lipp was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Tim Harper. Survivors include her children, Ronnie (Brenda) Lipp of Shiloh, Rhonda Lipp Tracy of Shiloh, Beverly Lipp Bolin of Ellerslie; her sister, Deborah Hendley of Shiloh; five grandchildren, Jennie (Toby) Eastman of Shiloh, Brannon (Michele) Kuydendall of The Woodlands, TX, Bethany (Travis) Gallion of Ellerslie, Josh (Erica) Tracy of Shiloh, James (Sammi Jo) Tracy of Shiloh and ten great grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge the kind and caring staff of Columbus Hospice, who treated Joyce with dignity and respect during her end of life care. Jaye Ellen Johnson

Jaye Ellen Johnson, age 59, of Columbus, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. A private family service will be held. Jaye was born August 9, 1957 in Columbus, the daughter of Harold Richard Johnson and Jean Thornton Johnson. She was a retired Sales Manager for AT&T. Jaye was a dedicated dog and cat rescuer and was a volunteer for foster programs for dogs. She was just as passionate about helping anyone in need. Although she had no children of her own, Jaye was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister, Pam Larsen and her brother John Johnson and his wife, Belinda all of Columbus; two nieces, Ann and Ellie Johnson and two nephews, Henry and David Larsen. Please sign the online register at

Sara Ted Lamb Colquitt “Teddy”

Sara Ted Lamb Colquitt “Teddy”, age 89, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2016 in Bossier City, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Wiley Colquitt, Jr. She was also preceded by her parents Ted Todd Lamb and Velma Brooks Lamb.Sara was born December 17, 1926 in Chambers County, AL. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend. Before moving to Bossier City, LA, Sara was a resident of the Lanett, AL area for more than 70 years. She began working at West Point Pepperell’s Fairfax Mill while still in high school. She attended college at Birmingham Southern College where she received a BS in Chemistry. She returned to West Point Pepperell for a rewarding career that spanned over 40 years working at both the Dye Works and Research Center. During her work at Research, Sara was awarded a patent by the U.S. Patent Office for inventing a process for controlling undesirable aldehyde and amine odors in treated textile materials. She loved the Lord and was a member of the Lanett First United Methodist Church and Fellowship United Methodist Church in Bossier City, LA. Sara served on multiple boards and committees at both churches. Sara loved being out with her family and friends, especially if it involved shopping or eating. She loved playing bridge, dominoes, and Suduko. She was well-known for her Strawberry cake and Chocolate Pound cake. Sara treasured her visits with her grandchildren and great-grandson, Micah, who always put a sparkle in her eye. Sara is survived by her only daughter Nancy Colquitt Youngblood and husband Jacob Wade Youngblood, grandchildren, Robert Curtis Youngblood and his wife Brianne, and Megan Youngblood Bolling and her husband Frank, and one great-grandson Micah Franklin Bolling. She is also survived by her only sister Ann Lamb Lackey and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service was held on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 11:00A.M. at the Lanett First United Methodist Church in Lanett, AL. The family received friends at the church at 10:00A.M. EDT. Interment followed directly after the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett, AL. Syble M. Hood

Mrs. Syble M. Hood, age 82, of Lanett, AL passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016 at her residence. Mrs. Hood is survived by her three children, Herbert Lee (Lucita) Hood, Jr. of Huguley, AL, Angelia (Jeff) Henderson of Valley, AL, and Teresa L. Meeks of Warner Robins, GA; her six grandchildren, Joey Hood, Wesley Hood, Craig Shelton, D.D. Miller, Brandon Jagielski, and Christopher Jagielski; her 14 great grandchildren, Jasmine Hood, Jolee Hood, Kieran Hood, Caleb Shockley, Kaitlyn Shockley, Timothy Lee, Cody Shelton, Gabby Strength, Hope Miller, Cam Miller, Jayleigh Shelton, Mason Jagielski, Lucas Jagielski, and Gage Jagielski; her four siblings, James (Pat) Johnson, Queenie Glass, Doris (James) Hood, and Bertha Faye (Charles) Smith; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lee Hood, Sr., her grandson, Jamey Shelton, three siblings, Florence Pierce, Lavada Duncan, and John Wesley Johnson, Jr. Mrs. Hood was born on September 1, 1934 in Alabama. She was a loyal and active member of Lanett First Church of the Nazarene where she held numerous positions over the years. She and Mr. Hood were the former Owners/Operators of Hood’s Flea Market in West Point, GA. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 24, at 3:00 PM (EDT) at the Lanett First Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Bernie Deffinger officiated. Interment followed in Oakwood Cemetery. Syble Strain Spears

Mrs. Syble Strain Spears, age 88, of Lanett, Alabama died Monday, October 24, 2016, at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, October 27, at 2:00 PM at Shawmut First Baptist Church in Valley, Alabama. Rev. Chuck Anderson and Rev. Mark McGee officiated. Burial followed at Marseilles Cemetery in West Point, GA. Mrs. Spears is survived by her husband of 68 years, William H. (Bill) Spears, two daughters, Angelia Spears Kaplan of Atlanta, GA. and Hilda Spears Jones and her husband Mike of West Point, GA., Six grandchildren, Will Jones (Jessie) of Fortson, GA., Katy Jones of West Point, GA., Natalie Kaplan, Stephen Kaplan (Helen), Mark Kaplan of Atlanta GA., and Leah Jones Parker (Tony) of Albemarle, N.C., and one great granddaughter, Allie Easley of Albemarle, NC.

Born May 19, 1928 in Woodland, AL, she was the daughter of the late P.K. Strain and Lois McCarter Strain. Mrs. Spears had been a resident of the Valley and West Point Area since 1950. She was an active member of Shawmut First Baptist Church and had faithfully served her churches for more than 50 years. She retired in 1988 from Dr. Charles Brazeal Optometry where she was employed for 20 years as an Optometrist Assistant. She spent her 28 years of retirement volunteering for community services, particularly the West Point Senior Center and Chattahoochee Hospice where she practiced her quilting skills for fund raising and other patient services. She was active in the Annual Relay for Life cancer fundraiser and became a cancer survivor in 2012. In 2014 she was nominated and elected as one of the Super Seniors in a program sponsored by the Circle of Care Center. She loved watching her grandchildren growing up while sharing family get-togethers, camping, the mountains, the beach, or just gathering around the pool. Mrs. Spears was preceded in death by her father, P.K. Strain, mother, Lois McCarter Strain, brother, Ray Strain, and sister Evelyn Strain Harlin. The family received friends Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 6:00P.M. EDT to 8:00P.M. EDT at the Johnson Brown Service Funeral Home in Valley.
