Naomi L. Abernathy
Naomi L. Abernathy, age 89, of Midland, Ga., passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Orchard View in Columbus. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2016 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ellerslie, with Dr. Tommy Henschel officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Mrs. Abernathy was born June 1, 1927 in Greenville, SC, the daughter of Julius Smith Lark and Florence Lola Cole Lark. She moved to Orlando, Florida in 1958, where she worked a number of years as a teller for Freedom Fairvilla Bank. Her deep faith in Christ made attending church an important part of her life. For many years she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Orlando, where she sang in the choir and participated in the annual Singing Christmas Tree program. In 1996, she became a member of First Baptist Church of Union Park in Orlando, where she was a member of the Young at Heart senior group. She remained active there until 2007, when she moved to Midland in Harris County, Ga., and joined Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ellerslie. During her residency in Orlando, she and her husband held annual passes to nearby Walt Disney World. She loved to go there to sit and “people-watch”. Her family was always very important to her and she loved spending time with them. She especially enjoyed attending her grandson’s baseball games and singing events. She also loved cooking, shopping, and collecting Precious Moments figurines. Mrs. Abernathy was preceded in death by a son, Michael Smith; a son-in-law, David Brawn; a great-granddaughter, Grace Brawn; four brothers, Kenneth Lark, Norwood Lark, Jerome Lark and Marlo Lark; and a sister, Thelma Timmons. She is survived by a daughter, Karen R. Brawn of Midland, Ga.; a grandson, Tyler Brawn (Emily) of Midland, Ga.; three great-grandsons, Caleb Brawn, Sammy Brawn, and Benji Brawn; a brother, David Lark, of Greenville, SC, three sisters, Carolyn Hudson and Mary Brackin, both of Greenville, SC, and Jean Johnson of Chattanooga, TN. Betty Faye Wright Nobley
Mrs. Betty Faye Wright Nobley, age 81, of Nashville, Georgia, formerly of LaGrange, passed away on November 15, 2016. Mrs. Nobley was born in Heard County to the late Leon Wright and Eunice Smith Wright on August 31, 1935. She worked for NOK as a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor. Mr. Herbert “Herb” Fickey, age 81, of Huguley, died Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Bethany House in Auburn. Funeral services were planned for Wednesday, November 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the Johnson Brown – Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Rev. Adam R. Traylor officiated. Burial followed at Johnson Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday morning from 10:00A.M. Mr. Fickey is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bernice Fickey; one brother Kenneth Fickey of Ringgold, Ga; two sister-in-law’s, Sue Fickey of Lanett, Alabama and Nellie Johnson of Valley, Alabama; children Darlene (Gary) Mayhew of Long Island, New York, Sherrill (Kevin) Gadd, Paul (Linda) Fickey, all of Jacksonville, Florida, Cheryl Miller of Huguley, Alabama, Rick (Rene’) Traylor of Valley, Alabama Cynthia (Tim) Williams of Beauregard, Alabama, and Shelia (Brent) Marlow of Bradenton, Florida; thirteen grandchildren, thirty two great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Born February 15, 1935 in Rockwood, Tenn., Mr. Fickey was the beloved son of the late Mozelle and Herb Fickey. He was an avid sports fan of the University of Tennessee. He was a beloved husband, loving father, grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Fickey retired as owner/manager of H.R. Fickey Vinyl Siding Company. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Alfred Fraizer Breedlove
Mr. Alfred Fraizer Breedlove, age 75, a resident of Lanett passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 at his residence. The family received friends Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM EST at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jean Breedlove; children, Linda Clay (Jeff), Steve Breedlove, Tina White; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and half brother, Ray Berry. Mr. Breedlove was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Margie & Herbert Berry.

Henry Gene Cheeks
Mr. Henry Gene Cheeks was born in Franklin, Georgia on October 2, 1943 to the late, Henritta Cheeks Cook and Gus Dixon, Sr. He joined the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church as a child. Henry G. was educated at Mary Johnson School in Franklin, Georgia. He worked for Awbrey Logging Company for many years before retiring. After retirement, he started a lawn care service, where he became known as the “Grass Man”. Henry G. and Mary Catherine Dunson were partners for many years and are the parents of one son, Maurice Dunson. The Lord called him home on November 9, 2016 after a long illness. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Artis Cheeks, Virgil Cheeks and Marshall T. Cook; and one sister, Patsy Ann Cook. His memories will forever linger in the hearts of those who love him. Dorothy Pauline Leath Roman
Mrs. Dorothy Pauline Leath Roman, the daughter of the late, Artis Leath and Carrie Flowers Gates was born August 24, 1934 in Fulton County, Georgia. “Mrs. Dot” as she was known, departed this life on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at LaGrange Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Doris Laverne Leath; two sisters, Lucy Roman and Louise Sledge; two brothers, Herman Gates and Otis Leath.
