Nettie Chapman Rowe
Nettie Chapman Rowe, age 95, of Manchester, Ga., passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at her residence. Cryptside services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017 in the Meriwether Mausoleum at Meriwether Memory Gardens. Rev. Gary Parrish officiated. The family received friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Rowe was born October 23, 1921 in Shiloh, Ga., the daughter of Vernon Chapman and Maude Watson Chapman. She was a homemaker and was a longtime member of Chalybeate Springs United Methodist Church, where she attended the Adult Sunday School Class, and taught during Vacation Bible School. She cooked for all the church sponsored meals and was very instrumental in helping to host the church’s annual barbeque event, selling so many tickets that she became known throughout the county as “the barbeque lady”. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur R. Rowe, Sr.; two sons, James Howard Rowe and Charlie Will Rowe; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include a son, Arthur R. Rowe, Jr. (Judy) of Pompano Beach, Fl.; a daughter-in-law, Inez Rowe of Manchester; a special nephew and niece, Gary Parrish and Loretta Cato; four grandchildren, Sonya Davis (Roger) of Manchester, Brian Rowe of Manchester, Kimberly Archuleta (Eric) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., and Amanda Maloney (Ian) of Manchester; six great-grandchildren, Lauren Davis, Zack Davis, Hannah Rowe, Noah Archuleta, Rayne Archuleta, and Gabby Maloney; also several nieces and nephews. Sharon Ann Camp
Sharon Ann Camp, age 66, of Lithia Springs, Ga., passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at her residence. Sharon was born October 8, 1950 in LaGrange, Ga., the daughter of the late W. Earl Camp and Mary Elsie Baxley Camp. She was retired as a Data Specialist for Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. She was raised in Manchester and, with her parents, was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors include her aunt, Cleta Camp Dorman of Manchester; also numerous cousins, including two special cousins that Sharon considered her sisters, Pam Sanchez (Phillip) of Shiloh, Ga., and Mary Lee Taylor of LaGrange. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In accordance with Sharon’s love for animals, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any humane society. Elizabeth Ann Thomaston Norris
Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Thomaston Norris, age 77, of LaGrange, passed away at the West Georgia Hospice on March 3, 2017. She was born on June 30, 1939 to the late Ed Thomaston and Maudell Hanners Thomaston in LaGrange. Mrs. Norris was a homemaker for the early years of her marriage as her husband served in the Military. Later in life she went to work as a Lunch Room Manager for the Troup County School System and served there for over 28 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Lou Hale. Survivors include her sons, Roswell Norris, Jr. (Teresa) of LaGrange, Mickey Norris (Serena) of LaGrange, Darrin Lee Norris (Lynsey Hester) of Thomaston, Dax Norris (Rene) of Miami FL; brothers, Michael Thomaston (Dianna) and Hunk Thomaston (Susan) both of LaGrange; grandchildren, Hannah Austin and her husband Houston, Abby Norris, Trevor John Norris, Denver Norris, Dillon Norris, Zayn Norris, Zoey Norris, and Colton Norris. Visitation was held on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the Living Waters Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. Interment followed the service at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Wesley Franklin Walters
Mr. Wesley Franklin Walters, age 102, of Five Points, Alabama, formally of LaGrange, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 at LaGrange Nursing and Rehabilitation. Wesley was born September 22, 1914, in Douglas County, Georgia, the son of Henry Oresta and Selma Beatrice Walters. Wesley served his country during World War II, He entered the United States Army Air Force on September 23, 1942, and was Honorable Discharged on September 23, 1945. He retired after owning and working Walters Grocery and Service Station in LaGrange for many years. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law’s: Jerrie Lee and Bobby Weaver of Fayetteville, Ga and Sophie and Don Baker of Five Points, AL; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will be receiving family and friends, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home, LaGrange. A grave side service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Shadowlawn Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Smith officiating. Mrs. Virginia Woods was born June 10, 1954 in LaGrange (Troup County) Georgia to Susie Mae Heard and the late Curtis McFarland. She was a faithful member of Wehadkee Baptist Church. Virginia was employed by Duracell for more than thirty years before becoming disabled in 2009. Since then, she has been enjoying her loved ones at home. She enjoyed her dialysis family as well. Virginia enjoyed life. She loved being outside, ceramics, and the beach. On Wednesday, March 1, 2017, Virginia Woods passed away at WellStar West Georgia Hospice surrounded by her family. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Woods; son, Elzime “Tonio” Woods; brothers, Robert Heard and Tommy Lee Heard; sister, Patricia Heard. She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters, Cadelia Woods, LaGrange, GA and Sheena (Bamidele) Afolabi, Savannah, GA; grandchildren, Shamara Johnson, Pine Mountain, GA; KaShaad Maddox, Nadye Woods, Kaorii Woods, Oni Smith, all of LaGrange, GA; mother, Patricia Heard; siblings, Larry Heard, Henry (Dorothy) Heard, Jimmy Heard, all of LaGrange, GA; and Willie (Ann) Heard, Lanett, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Frances Morris Brown, age 82, formerly of LaGrange passed away on Friday at Eastside Medical Center in Snellville. Frances Morris Brown the daughter of the late Elmer and Pauline Laye was born in Troup County. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 1 pm in Southview Cemetery with the Rev. Lenton Snow officiating.

Walter Edward Dance, Jr.
Mr. Walter Edward Dance, Jr., age 75, Of LaGrange passed away Friday March 3, 2017 at Poplar Creek Assisted Living in LaGrange. Mr. Dance was born August 22, 1941 in LaGrange, GA, son of the late Walter Edward Dance, Sr. and Suval Meadors Dance. He was retired from the Vocational Rehabilitation Department of Georgia, and a member of The First United Methodist Church. Mr. Dance was an avid golfer and loved his Georgia Bulldogs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Kay Dance and his wife Mary Dance. Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia (Chuck) Hauck, son; Walter Edward Dance III; a sister, Debra (Art) Perkins; grandchildren, Shelby and Connor; great grandchildren; Sutton; nephew, Dustin (Jordyn) Murphy. The family was at the home of Mr. Dance, 214 East Lane Circle, and received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. William Edward “Willie B” Benefield
William Edward “Willie B” Benefield, age 40, of Roanoke, AL passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Wedowee Hospital. Mr. Benefield was born October 15, 1976 in LaGrange, GA to Clyde E. Benefield and Terri D. Scarborough Benefield. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his family. William will be greatly missed by all who know him. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Amanda Benefield; children, Kylie Benefield (Oscar Campose), Taylor Benefield, and Olivia Benefield; brothers, Roy Jackson and Erick Benefield (Amber Garcia); numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
