Clara Cathcart

Mrs. Clara Cathcart, age 89, of Hogansville, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, at Hospice LaGrange. Mrs. Cathcart was born July 7, 1927, in Carroll County, daughter of the late Walter Eugene Masdon and Claudia Williamson Masdon. A resident of Hogansville most of her life, she was Baptist by faith and retired from Uniroyal, Inc. after 28 years of service. Survivors include her daughter and son in-law, Debbie and Ray Hill of Franklin; son, Duane Cathcart of Hogansville; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Rigsby and a great-grandson, Tucker Laws. The funeral service was conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 13, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Edna Grace Gable

Edna Grace Gable, age 62, of Moreland, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at her home. Ms. Gable was born July 15, 1954, in Sylacauga, Alabama, daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Gable and Geneva Boyd Gable. A resident of Coweta County most of her life, she loved Jesus with all her heart and was a retired private duty nursing assistant. She was an avid gardener and was able to plant and make anything grow. She loved to sing gospel music and enjoyed doll collecting, but her children and grandchildren were the most important parts of her life. Survivors include her daughters and sons in-law, Lisa and Chuck Davis of Senoia, Allison and Micheal Hyde of Sharpsburg; son, Michael Sherburn of Senoia; brothers, Ben Lewis and Robin Gable of Franklin, Tony and Janet Gable of Perry; and grandchildren, Wilson Chancey, Jessica Chancey, Bailee Hyde, Ryland Hyde. The family will host a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 16, at Rehoboth Baptist Church in Luthersville with Pastor Brian Hosmer officiating. Condolences may be expressed at

Joseph Russell Williams

Joseph Russell Williams, age 75, of Huntsville, TN died Saturday, March 4, 2017 at NHC of Rossville in Rossville, GA. Funeral services for Mr. Williams was held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Manchester. Rev. Bill Strandberg officiated. Interment followed in the Alvaton Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jimmy Worley, Allen Worley, Jimmy Carver, Michael Owens, Craig Owens and Alfred (Buster) McCoy. The family received friends Monday evening from 6:00- 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Mr. Williams was born September 2, 1941 in Norman, TN the son of Mary Hembree Williams Efford Williams. He retired with 25 years services as a truck driver with Overnite Transportation Company. Mr. Williams was a member of the Alvation Baptist Church and had attended Antioch and New Friendship churches also while living in the area. He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting deer, rabbits and raccoons. He loved Braves baseball games. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James T. Williams, and Cecil Williams; his infant sister Ernie Williams and especially his loving wife Heidi Williams. He is survived by his son Christopher Williams of Gay, GA; daughters Carmen Smith (Sheriff Chuck Smith) of Gay, GA; Tina Turnipseed (Allen) of Newnan, GA and three grandchildren Gabe Smith (Christian) of LaGrange; Michael Turnipseed of Newnan and Kersten Smith of Gay; sisters Thelma-Ann Nelson of Chattanooga, TN and Erma Fair of Douglasville and many nieces and nephews.

Billy Hester

Mr. Billy Hester, age 78, of Franklin, passed away Friday at his home. Mr. Hester was born April 18, 1938 in Wheeler County Georgia the son of the late Woodrow & Ethleen Price Hester. He was retired from Fluor-Daniel as a warehouse manager. Mr. Hester was preceded in death by His Wife, Mrs. Agnes Marie Hester and a Brother and Sister. Survivors include Denise & Lee Bryan, LaGrange, GA, Lisa Hester Sweet, Sulphur, LA, and son Edward Lynn Sherrod, LaGrange, GA. Three grandchildren Dustin Keegan, Caden Sweet, and Eric Talley. Two great-grandchildren Alec Keegan and Christian Davis. Two sisters Judy Fundom and Trisha Daniel Overton. Funeral Services for Mr. Billy Hester was held at 3:00 P.M on Tuesday from the Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel. Rev. Jimmy McMillian officiated. Kimberly Denise Hurston

Ms. Kimberly Denise Hurston was born November 30, 1969 to JoAnn Hurston and the late, Bobby Lee McLaughlin in LaGrange (Troup County) Georgia. “Kim” attended LaGrange High School. At a young age, she joined Valley Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was employed by SOS Cleaners for twenty-seven years. On Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, Kimberly peacefully left us, crossing over to be with our Lord. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandchild, Elijah Hurston; sister, Miranda Hurston; niece, Tionna Harrison; nephew, Tridarrious Harrison; great nephew Qua’Mauri Harrison; maternal grandparents, Azella Slaughter and Jimmie T. Hurston, Jr. and paternal grandparents, Simuel McLaughlin, Sr. and Leola McLaughlin; aunts, Fannie Mae Slaughter and Carrie Mae Brooks; uncles, Jewell Slaughter, David Lewis Slaughter, Simuel McLaughlin, Jr., and Donald McLaughlin. Mary A. “Mechee” Collins Emanuel

Mrs. Mary A. “Mechee” Collins Emanuel, of Lanett, AL passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017 at her residence. Mrs. Mary Ann Collins Emanuel, the fifth child born to the late Mr. Wallace and Excer Bonner Collins, was born October 11, 1945 in Chambers County, AL. Mary fell asleep in death on March 6, 2017 at her residence. Mary was a graduate of Lanier High School class of 1963. After high school, she moved to Staten Island, NY, where she remained for 54 years. While in New York she attended Cosmetology School. In later years she became employed in the Medical Profession, where she remained until her retirement. In 1968 Mary met and married William Franklin Emanuel, Sr., who preceded her in death. Into this union two sons were born. After Mary retirement, she returned home to be close to family members and friends. Mary was preceded in death by an adopted sister, Annie Reed and five brothers, Wallace, Jr., Walter, Henry Lee, Moses and Frank Collins She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, William F. Emanuel, Jr. and Crain R. Emanuel, Staten Island, NY; two sisters, Sharon C. Tisdel, Lanett, AL and Brenda C. Fuller, Birmingham, AL; four adopted sisters, Amanda Potts, Washington, DC, Elizabeth Gilmore, Holly Hill S.C; Frances Mitchell, Florence, AL and Lena Dyers, Los Angeles, CA; seven grandchildren, six grandchildren two sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, four nieces, two nephews, a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Graveside Service was held at Pinehill Cemetery at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Elder Terry Cofield officiated.

Terry W. Redden “Pops”

Terry W. Redden “Pops”, age 76, of LaGrange, GA passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Florence Hand Nursing Home. Mr. Redden was born September 23, 1940 in LaGrange, GA to the late Marion Lewis Redden and Jessie Hines Redden. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy and was of the Christian faith. Mr. Redden enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing, bird watching, and his cups of coffee. He enjoyed life and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucinda Jayne Spears Redden; five siblings; and a great grandchild, Hudson Golden. Survivors include his children, Michael (Linda) Golden, Linda (Mike) Sims, and Karen (Regina) Golden; grandchildren, Allen (Melinda) Golden, Jessica Hopson, Andrea Hopson, Lori (Matt) Terry, Chase Boggs, Jeremy Golden, Preston Boggs, Mikayla Ramsey, Michael Shirey, Matt Shirey, Sean (Kara) Miles, and Phillip (Rebekah) Miles; great grandchildren, Marli Self, Walker Golden, Jadarius Young, and Gavin Miles; his beloved companion, his Boston Terrier “Lil Bit”; other relatives and friends. The Gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. The family will hold a private memorial service.
