Sandra Janine Boyd Talley

Mrs. Sandra Janine Boyd Talley was born July 27, 1963 to the late, Mr. John B. Boyd and Mrs. Carrie B. Boyd. She joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at an early age and was very active and faithful for many years. Sandra graduated from LaGrange High School in 1981. She was a hardworking and a very dedicated employee of Interface Flooring for thirty-two years and loved every bit of it. On Wednesday, March 8, 2017, Sandra departed this life at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center. She leaves to cherish her memories, two children, LaChantis Talley and Broderick Talley; four grandchildren, Breonna Birdsong, Jaylen Birdsong, Kaydon Stanford, and King Talley; one sister, Linda Boyd; three brothers, John L. Boyd, John B. Boyd, and Kenneth Boyd; special niece and nephew, Shacara Johnson and Kentonio Johnson; close friends, Eva Hardy, Wali Haamid, Orlando Chappele, Lonia Lovelace, Herman Howard; three aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Dr. W.T. Edmondson officiated. Burial followed at Wehadkee Baptist Church Cemetery, Abbottsford, Georgia.

Robert L. Darden

Robert L. Darden was born August 14, 1948 to the late, Robert and Sarah Darden in Lanett, Alabama.

He graduated from Rehobeth High School, Fairfax, Alabama in 1967. On August 15, 1969, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Carrie Lee Ware and he was blessed with one loving daughter, Gwenita. He accepted the Lord at an early age and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church, Lanett, Alabama. He later joined Springfield Baptist Church, Pastor Sam Cameron, LaGrange, Georgia. He obtained his license to preach God’s word in 1969, received his Doctor of Divinity in 1975 from Universal Bible Institute, Alamo, Tennessee and acquired Bishop Ordainment in 1983. He was the founder and serve as Overseer/Bishop of the First Zion World Church of Faith USA., Decatur and LaGrange, Georgia. He was also the Founder, Overseer and Director of Uplifting Your Faith / Bethesda Outreach Ministries, LaGrange, Georgia, where he helped others move to the next level in life. “Bishop” also fed the elderly and needy people in the community and helped Jake Sessions with the Up All Night Community Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners. Bishop also organized the program to “Keeping Dr. Martin Luther King Dream Alive in the City of LaGrange” and each year he had a celebration to honor Dr. King.

Bishop Darden was an outstanding servant of the Lord presenting an excellent portfolio of ministering God’s word for over forty-eight years. He ministered to people of all ages. He was an honest, trustworthy servant whose vision and mission was to successfully promote the Word of God. He was a firm believer in Mark 11:23 “You Can Have What You Say”. On March 8, 2017, Bishop Robert L. Darden was called from labor to reward. In addition to his parents, and his wife, Carrie Lee Darden; he was preceded in death by four siblings, Addie “Sweet” Darden-Reed, Dock Gates Jr., Patricia Flowers and Doris Flowers. Bishop Darden leaves to cherish many fond and precious memories to his loving family: one loving and devoted daughter, Gwenita LaVette Ware, LaGrange, GA; six brothers: George (Teresa) Morgan, College Park, GA; Jimmy (Emma) Morgan, Chicago, IL; George (Teresa) Gates, Willie (Tonya) Gates, Mack (Brenda) Gates, all of Valley, AL, Robert (Ann) Gates, Knoxville, TN; five sisters: Mary Nell Washington, Lanett, AL, Elaine Kellem, LaGrange, GA; Penny Booker, Lanett, AL, Louise (Sam) Bryant, Valley, AL, Betty Ann Pitts, Buffalo, NY; three sisters-in-law: Dovie Philpot, Franklin, GA, Fannie (W.C.) Crump, Atlanta, GA, Cheryl Gates, Indianapolis, IN; four brothers-in-law: Pastor J. R. Ware, LaGrange, GA, John (Pauline) Ware, Decatur, GA, Randy Flowers and Curtis Evans both of Lanett, AL; two god sons: G. Winston Fanning, Lanett, AL and Isiah Adams, LaGrange, GA; two god-grandchildren: India Winston-Hicks, West Point, GA, Kumoni Hicks, LaGrange, GA; special friend, Pastor Gloria Burks; special nephew, Marcus Brandon Darden, LaGrange, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday at 1:00 PM at New Beginning Baptist Church. Pastor William Harris and Pastor Gary L. Fanning officiated.

Gloria Towns Strozier

Mrs. Gloria Towns Strozier was born February 25, 1948 to the late, Bill and Minnie Huzzie, Jr. in LaGrange, Georgia. She joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church at an early age and later became a member of New Beginning Baptist Church. Before her health declined, she worked as an Assistant Teacher at Pride and Joy Daycare. In her early years, she was a cook at Vendall Catering Service. Gloria was the First Lady of Benefits where she served on the Benevolent Committee Board. On Thursday, March 9, 2017 at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center; Gloria departed this life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James Strozier, Sr.; three sons, Master Allen Easter, Mr. James Strozier, Jr., and Mr. Ozell Strozier; stepmother, Mrs. Annie Huzzie; two brothers, Mr. Charlie Brown and Mr. James Brown; two sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Rosser and Mrs. Fannie Kate Harrell. She leaves to cherish her memories, three loving and devoted sons, Mr. Demetries (Wyona) Easter, Mr. Pernell (Sherry) Easter, Mr. Curtis (Synda) Towns; three loving and devoted daughters, Mrs. Allison Easter (Terry) Burks, Ms. Jamillah Strozier, all of LaGrange, GA; Mrs. Joanne Weaver, Luthersville, GA; three loving and devoted brothers, Mr. Stanley (Jessie) Huzzie, Sr., Dayton, OH; Mr. Charles Huzzie, Sr., Orlando, FL; Mr. Donald (Elaine) Huzzie, Sr., Miami, FL; two loving sisters, Mrs. Mary Frances Rachel and Mrs. Sherry Jean Moreland, both of LaGrange, GA; special cousins, Mrs. Charlie Mae (John) Moton, Mr. Arthur Sheppard, Mrs. Betty Lou Dotson, Mr. Willie Cooper; special niece, Mrs. Jackie Huzzie Gaskin; two devoted uncles, Mr. George (Jackie) Stanley, Miami, FL and Mr. Hillard Stanley, Jacksonville, FL; one special and devoted aunt, Mrs. Ruby Moore, LaGrange, GA; special family friends, Opal Easter Holloway, the Philpot and Ware families; 47 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Dr. W.T. Edmondson and Rev. William Harris officiated. Burial followed at Southview Cemetery.

Robert “Bob” Parry Turner

Robert “Bob” Parry Turner, age 86, of LaGrange, GA passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice. Mr. Turner was born April 6, 1930 in Elmhurst, IL to the late Arthur Turner and Elizabeth Parry Turner and grew up in Wheaton, IL. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hyattsville, MD and a long time member of the choir. Mr. Turner was a graduate of Wesley College in Dover, DE and retired from the University of Maryland in the Horticulture Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Turner Stransky; and niece, Beth Stransky Feris. Survivors include his sister, Miriam Turner Holliday of Greenville, GA; nephews, Bob Stransky of Midlothian, VA; John W. Holliday of LaGrange, GA; nieces, Janet and Lewis Powell, Gay and Keith Fortson, Susan and Dan Lee; a number of great nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 18, 2017 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Rev. Kory Trinrud officiated. A private burial followed in Greenville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Greenville, GA in memory of Robert P. Turner. Billy Glenn Banks

Mr. Billy Glenn Banks, age 86, of LaGrange, GA passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Banks was born May 6, 1930 in Hampton, GA to the late James Madison Banks and Velma Lee Meeks Banks. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired from the Washington National Airport as an aircraft refueler. Survivors include his wife, Minna L. Fleischmann Banks; daughter, Velma Louise Morgan; son, William Glenn Banks; daughter, Brenda Jean and Donald Edwards; grandchildren, Rebecca Barnes, Kathryn Edwards, and Laura Edwards; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The Funeral was held at 3:00 pm on Friday, March 17, 2017 in the Chapel of  Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. The family received friends from 1:30 pm until service time.
