Courtney Elizabeth Dyson
Courtney Elizabeth Dyson, age 13, of Waverly Hall, passed away Tuesday, April 4th, 2017 at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Egleston. Funeral services were held at 4:00 pm on Friday, April 7th at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ellerslie, Georgia. Interment followed in Meriwether Memory Gardens, Manchester. Dr. Tommy Henschel officiated, assisted by Rev. Ray Sutton. Visitation was from 1:30-3:30pm at the church prior to the service. Courtney was born November 14, 2003 in Columbus, the daughter of Craig and Janice Dyson. She was the sister of Corey Dyson. She was in the seventh grade, and was home-schooled by her mother. Courtney was a member in her church’s youth group at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ellerslie, Ga, where she attended her entire life. Courtney loved the Lord and she was baptized as a profession of her faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 9. Courtney lived a full and joyful life. She loved her dog, a cockapoo named Gracie, a white Holland Lop bunny named Bashful, and four cats, Savannah, Oreo, Annabell, and Tiger-Lily. Courtney enjoyed riding her scooter, as well as fishing in the boat with her Mama, Daddy and her brother. Courtney loved being home, where she played piano, listened to music, and spent time with her family. One of her favorite places to be was Disney World, where she loved to watch shows and ride attractions. In her life, Courtney grew to become a thoughtful, kind, and caring young woman of God who brought a smile to all who knew her. She showed love and kindness to everyone she met. Courtney had a sweet and quiet presence, but once you knew her, she was truly a hilarious, outgoing, bubbly girl with a huge personality. She was the best sister, daughter, and friend that anyone could ever hope to know and love. Courtney was preceded in death by her grandfather, Wade Dyson; her maternal grandparents, Herman and Evelyn Shearouse; two uncles, Britt Dyson and Keith Dyson. Survivors include her parents, Craig and Janice Dyson of Waverly Hall; her brother, Corey Dyson of Waverly Hall; her paternal grandmother, Linda Dyson of Warm Springs; two uncles, Alan Shearouse and David Shearouse of Woodbury; one aunt, Kristy Griffin and her husband Jeff of Ellerslie and several cousins. Grace W. Slade
Mrs. Grace W. Slade, age 95, of West Point, Georgia passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 in LaGrange, Georgia. Mrs. Slade was born in Pembroke, Georgia on January 11, 1922 to the late Dr. Frank and Eleanor Wilson of Valdosta, Georgia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George C. Slade; siblings, Elizabeth Gibson, Frances Johnson, and Dr. Bob Wilson. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Linda and Jack Gibbons, Gastonia, NC, George and Terri Slade, Lanett, AL., Bill and Patti Slade, West Point, GA., Susan and Frankie Ponder, Lanett, AL.; eight loving grandchildren, John (Wendy) Gibbons, Matthew (Michelle) Gibbons, Mark (Jennifer) Gibbons, Amy (Rodney) Smith, Craig (Holly) Slade, Frank (Anne) Ponder, Stefan (Katie) Slade, Slade (Katie) Ponder; fifteen great-grandchildren; host of devoted nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. EDT at the First United Methodist Church of West Point. Interment followed in Marseilles Cemetery. The Rev. John Mattox officiated. Mrs. Slade’s family received friends in the Zachry Center of the First United Methodist Church of West Point on Monday from 9:30 A.M. EDT until 11:00A.M. EDT. Mrs. Slade graduated from Valdosta High School and Georgia Florida Business College. She was a member of the Optometric Women’s Auxiliary and a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of West Point. She enjoyed her times through the years with the soup kitchen, Meals on Wheels, and the garden club. She will always be remembered for her wit and fun loving personality. Her generosity and care for her community will be missed. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her special caregivers, the staff of Florence Hand and West Georgia Hospice for the special care and compassion given to Mrs. Slade. Maud Turner Meadows
Mrs. Maud Turner Meadows, age 75, of Lanett, Alabama passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at her residence. Mrs. Meadows was born in West Point, Georgia on April 13, 1941 to the late Howard and Nadine Turner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gaines Meadows; sisters, Lettie Hadaway and Sheila Childers; great great-nephew, Corey Murphy. Mrs. Meadows was a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Lanett. She worked for the Playtex Corporation in LaFayette. She later went to work for George H. Lanier Hospital and Nursing Home, where she worked in the business office. She was a member of the Little Boston Club. She was an avid reader and loved her collection of books. She was an avid University of Alabama Football fan and was one of Elvis’ biggest fans. She is survived by her nieces, Deanne (Ron) Deese, Tia (Tim) Edge; great nephews, Chris (Lynn) Murphy, Brandon Edge; great niece, Latisha Edge; step son, Leslie (Lynn) Meadows; step daughter, Reba (Leon) Hardin; three step granddaughters, one step grandson; four great great-nieces; two great great-nephews; sister-in-law, Marge Nealy; special friend, Fannie Myers. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment was in Johnson Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Terry Hill and the Rev. John Fredrick officiated. The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 10:00 A.M. EDT until the service hour. Dorothy S. Fannin
The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Mrs. Dorothy S. Fannin was held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 2:00PM in the Bright Star Cemetery. Rev. J. R. Ware officiated. Mrs. Fannin, a native of Pine Mountain (Harris County), was born May 10, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Gilbert Sparks and Janie Williams Sparks. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Fannin Sr.; and son, Michael B. Fannin. Survivors include one son, Roosevelt Fannin Jr.; two daughters: Gwinda F. Mallory and Linda Fannin Copeland; son-in-law, Charles E. Copeland; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 until 7 and assembled at the funeral home on Saturday at 12:30PM.

Mrs. Catherine Rudd Woody of Lanett, AL passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at her residence. The Funeral Service will be held at Mt. Zion AME Church at 2:00 PM, ET on Monday, April 10, 2017. Burial will be held at the Church’s Cemetery. Ministers: Rev. Wendell Jones, Sr., Pastor, Rev. Carmen Avery Walker, Eulogist, Rev. James McTier, Rev. Charles Trammell, Rev. Mrs. Nancy Zachry, age 58, of LaGrange, GA passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 at West Georgia Medical Center. Mrs. Zachry was born April 9, 1958 in Roanoke, AL, daughter of Emory Ford Cavender and the late Virginia Mickle Cavender. She was a member of New Community Church and was employed with Florence Hand Nursing Home as a Registered Nurse. Survivors in addition to her father, Emory Ford Cavender, include her son, John Zachry; and a brother, Dennis Cavender.
