Annette Hill

Annette Hill, age 79, of Woodbury, died Monday, April 3, 2017 at Hospice LaGrange. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am, Friday, April 7, 2017 at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Manchester. Rev. Lawrence Doby officiated. Interment followed in Meriwether Memory Gardens. Visitation was from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Thursday at the funeral home. Ms. Hill was born April 30, 1937 in Woodbury, the daughter of Frank Clifford Massengale and Mattie Threadgill Massengale. She was a member of New Life Christian Ministries in Woodbury. Ms. Hill spent her life as a homemaker in every since of the word. She was devoted to caring for her children and grandchildren even after they were grown. She still loved to cook and enjoyed gardening. Ms. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Clemon Hill, Jr., three sisters and four brothers. Survivors include her children, Rodney Bruce Hill and his wife, Pam, Raymond Dennis Hill, Sharon Brooks and her husband, Steve, all of Woodbury and Marion Hill and his wife, Aimee of Thomaston; one brother, Wallace Massengale of Woodbury; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Linda J. Lanier

Linda J. Lanier was born August 11, 1949 in Sacramento, CA the daughter of the late Bobby Dean Montgomery and Mary Elizabeth Crow Montgomery. She currently was a cashier with Walmart. Mrs. Lanier died on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Midtown Medical Center, Columbus, GA from injuries sustained in a car accident. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son John Lanier of Warm Springs, siblings Sharen Schlemmer of Spanaway, WA; Dan Montgomery of Sumner, WA; Laura (Rick) Emry of Bonney Lake, WA and Jeannie Whitworth of Spanaway, WA; several nieces and nephews. Private memorial services will be held by the family and condolences may be given online at www.coxfh.com.

Sara Jett Shedd Hudson

Mrs. Sara Jett Shedd Hudson, of LaGrange, passed away on April 7, 2017 at the WellStar West Georgia Hospice. Mrs. Hudson was born on March 2, 1948 in Wilcox County, Georgia to the late John Raymond Shedd and Ruth Conner Shedd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Robbie Matkins, Charles “Buddy” Shedd and Donald Shedd. Mrs. Hudson served as the Financial Secretary of the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange for many years and was a member at Grace Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Reginald Avery Hudson; sons, Brandon Avery Hudson and his wife Sara Ann and James Ray Bloodsworth, Jr. and his wife Heather; daughter, Salena Bloodsworth Ferrell; brother, Johnny Shed and his wife Elaine; sister, Wanda Bhachech and her husband K.G.; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; extended family and friends. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Grace Baptist Church. Rev. Donnie Benefield and Rev. Brad Thompson officiated. John Will Turner

Mr. John Will Turner, age 92, of LaGrange, passed away on April 8, 2017 at the WellStar West Georgia Hospice. Mr. Turner was born on May 17, 1924 as one of 11 children in Lowell, Georgia to the late Alvin Lawrence Turner and Clara Cole Turner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Louise Wheelus Turner. Mr. Turner proudly served his country in the United States Navy, followed by many years at West Point Pepperell where he was a Corporate Auditor. He was a member of the Unity Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon.  His passions in life were his Lord, his family and his farm. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Barbara Ayers Bearden Turner; his sons, Larry Turner and his wife Sheila of LaGrange and Donny Turner and his wife Pam of LaGrange; daughters, Linda Hodges and her husband Donny of Longs, South Carolina, Joyce Wood and her husband Gary of LaGrange and Bonita Davidson and her husband Charles of Monterrey, Mexico; step-son, David Bearden of LaGrange; brother, Horace Turner of Loganville; sisters, Inez Musick of Carrollton and Barbara Shelton and her husband Harold of Pine Mountain; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel. Rev. Doug Bingham and Rev. Geneva D. Kirk

Ms. Geneva D. Kirk, age 60, of LaGrange, died early Thursday morning at St. Francis hospital after an extended illness. Geneva was born November 14, 1956 in Georgetown Kentucky the daughter of Mrs. Annie Clifton Matthews and the late Bobby Matthews. Geneva’s employment with Interface Flooring spanned over 30 years of service prior to retiring due to health reasons. Survivors other than her Mother include two daughters, Banda Kirk, King’s Mountain, N.C., Bobbie Marie Harris, LaGrange, Ga., and two grandchildren. The family of Geneva D. Kirk has chosen cremation as memorialization and will have a private service at a later date. Jimmy L. Parker

Mr. Jimmy L. Parker, age 70, of West Point, Georgia, passed away at his home Thursday after a brief illness. Mr. Parker was born April 20, 1945 in Tulsa Oklahoma the son of the late Clyde L. & Jewell Petty Parker. Jimmy had made his home in Troup County most of his life and retired from Troup County Government. Jimmy was a correctional officer for the Troup County Correctional Institute and retiring while working in the road department. Survivors include his loving wife Sandra Parker, his children Tracy E. Parker, Ashley Nichole Davis, and Roger Taunton. 12 Grandchildren William Joshua Davis, Matthew Wade Woodruff, Emily Michelle Mackey, Kristii Alexandra Hemmings, Stacy Jo Sims, Cheyanna Elizabeth Sheppard, Trey Sims, Mason Noah Davis, Ashlyn Jewel Davis, William Bentley Davis, Sharlette Skye Davis, and Isabella Sky Darling and five great grandchildren Jeffery James Hemmings, Crystal Destiny Michelle Hemmings, Austin Brian Thomas Hemmings, Cheyenne Nichole Davis, and Mark James Woodruff. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Jimmy L. Parker will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from the Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery 3405 Country Club Road, Lanett, Alabama with the Reverend Howard Longshore officiating. Julia Nancy Thornton Traylor

Mrs. Julia Nancy Thornton Traylor was born January 6, 1926 in LaGrange, Georgia to the late, Joshua and Lilla Florence Thornton. As a child, she grew in Christian Faith at First Baptist Church of LaGrange. Later in life, she joined the True Holiness Church of God in Jesus Name where she served faithfully until her health declined. She was employed by Dixie Mill for a short time; and then went on to work for Crawford Center for Special Need Children, which she truly enjoyed. She retired in 1993, which only lasted for two years. She then returned to work for the Pathway Center which included caring for Special Need Children until she fully retired in 1998. Julia was a hardworking and devoted mother, friend, and a Christian woman. She loved everyone and always had an encouraging word to whomever she came in contact with. She lived her personal philosophy, “Never look down on anyone unless you’re helping them up”! On Friday, April 7, 2017 at Christian City Rehab Center in Union City, Georgia; Julia Nancy Traylor departed this life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great grandson, Bryson Farrow; four siblings, Josh Traylor, John D. Thornton, Alice T. Roberts, Charles Thornton, and Lilla Florence Thornton. She leaves to cherish her memories, four children, Linda Thornton (Larry) Gillespie, Nashville, TN; Charles S. (Dichondra) Thornton, Atlanta, GA; Johnny F. (Vanessa) Traylor, LaGrange, GA; and William M. Traylor, Atlanta, GA; four siblings, Marion V. Towns, Albert L. Thornton, Harvey (Yvette) Thornton, and Gwendolyn Cranford; twelve grandchildren, Joshua Thornton, DeWayne Thornton, Gabriel (Stephane) Traylor, Shemeka (Carlos) Lynch, Cabral (Noel) Thornton, Rashad Thornton, Mia Thornton, Larry Gillespie, Jr., Natasha Traylor, Candice Traylor, Jamal Traylor, and William Traylor; twenty-two great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and close cousins; special friend, Mary McPherson; and two special caregivers, Mrs. Lesa Robinson, LaGrange, GA; and Carolyn Frazier-Traylor, Atlanta, GA. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at First Baptist Church, Fannin Street. Pastor William Craig Thornton will officiate. Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery. The family will be at their home at 210 North Lee Street and received friends in the Chapel of Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8.
