Alyssa Hope Shirey

Alyssa Hope Shirey, age 13, of LaGrange, passed away on April 18, 2017 at Children’s Health Care of Atlanta, Scottish Rite. Alyssa was born on April 9, 2004 in LaGrange to Charles Hayward Shirey and Melissa Ann Humphreys Shirey. She was a seventh grader at Callaway Middle School and a member of Franklin Road Baptist Church where she brought joy to the lives of all those around her. The community has given an outpouring of love to Alyssa and her family as they have faced this long battle with courage and faith. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her parents, Charlie and Melissa Shirey; brothers, Charles Kane Shirey and Sean Luke Shirey; grandparents, Samuel Humphreys, Walter Shirey (Judy) and Beatrice Shirey; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; extended family and many friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Franklin Road Baptist Church. Rev. Andy Buchanan and Rev. Frank Sledge officiated. Interment followed at Restlawn Memory Gardens. Family received friends at the church from 12:00 until service hour at the church. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in memory of Alyssa to the Franklin Road Baptist Church Memorial Fund for Alyssa, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, the RALLY Foundation for Cancer Research or the AFLAC Blood and Disorder Center at Scottish Rite. Online condolences may be sent to the family at

Roswell Owen Norris, Sr

Mr. Roswell Owen Norris, Sr., passed away on April 19, 2017 in Alexander City, Alabama. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Loyd Presbyterian Church with Dr. Rix Threadgill officiating. Interment will follow at the Shadowlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 PM until service hour. Survivors include his sons, Roswell Norris, Jr. (Teresa) of LaGrange, Mickey Norris (Serena) of LaGrange, Darrin Lee Norris (Lynsey Hester) of Thomaston, Dax Norris (Rene) of Miami FL;  sister, Willodean (Dean) Norris Turner; grandchildren, Hannah Austin and her husband Houston, Abby Norris, Trevor John Norris, Denver Norris, Dillon Norris, Zayn Norris, Zoey Norris, and Colton Norris; extended family and friends. Mr. Norris was born on May 17, 1939 in LaGrange to the late William Obie Norris and Beatrice Cantrell Norris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Norris Railey and Geraldine Norris Cadwell. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, followed by earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Troy State University.  The family would like to thank his caregiver, Dawn Tritt for the last seven years of service. Shirley Faye Maddox

A Time To Be Born: On September 6, 1944, God sent down a baby girl, Shirley Faye Rolling into the loving arms of Mr. George Rolling, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Q. Rolling of LaGrange, Georgia. A Time To Love: Shirley became partner in marriage to Mr. Ernest J. Maddox, Sr. in 1967. To this union, nine children were loved and reared. A Time To Grow: Mrs. Maddox was faithfully employed with Milliken Calumet Plant and Twin Fountain Nursing home for many years until her retirement. A Time To Serve: Shirley joined Confidence Missionary Baptist Church in LaGrange, Georgia and was faithful to Mother’s Ministry and served until her health declined. A Time To Die: On April 13, 2017, the Lord reached down picked up a stone from the garden, brushed it off, and set it on the shelf to be beautiful for Heaven to see, which we pray that she’s at peace with the Lord. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest J. Maddox, Sr.; son, Ernest J. Maddox, Jr.; daughter, Balisa Gates; brothers, Jasper Rolling, George Rolling, Jr.; sisters, Ella Lou Swindle, Mary Ann Smith, Joyce Rolling; and mother-in-law, Mrs. Earzy Lee Maddox. A Time To Remember: Surviving her departure with cherished memories are her children, Montest (Carlton) Cameron, Gaylord Lay, Cynthia Maddox, Irvin (Lisa) Maddox, Dionne Maddox, Tanya Maddox, and Kathy Maddox; fourteen grandchildren, Monica Hill, Maurice Cameron, Carlton (Veneka) Cameron, Jr., Anthony Cameron, Tamesha Lay, Walter (Shalillian) Maddox, LaBridgette (Klaus) Alleyne, Ciera Brown, Mandy Maddox, LaPorscha Maddox, Kashaad Maddox, Alexis Gates, Yasmin Maddox, Kindae Maddox; fourteen great grandchildren; brothers, Roger R. Rolling and Bobby Rolling; brothers-in-law, Fred Joe Maddox and Willie T. (Vernice) Maddox; sisters-in-law, Frances E. Maddox and Dorothia (Ellee) Gay; special friends whom she held dear to her heart, Annie Lofton, Ruby Nell Harrison, Teresa Ray, Shirley Kate Culpepper, Patricia Bonner, and Alma; and a host of nieces and nephews. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 1:00 PM at New Community Church. Pastor Michael Jackson officiated. Burial followed at Southview Cemetery.

Agnes Patterson

Ms. Agnes Patterson was born August 28, 1931 to the late, Adel and Sallie Harris in Odessadale, Georgia.

She joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church at an early age and later became a member of New Beginning Baptist Church. Before her health declined, she was a Domestic worker and she specialized in making cheese straws. She showed so much love to so many people. On Friday, April 14, 2017 she was called to rest. She departed this life at Twin Fountains Nursing Home in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Harman Harris, Ruby Brighton, Cora Roberts, Marvin Harris, Charlie Harris and William Harris. She leaves to cherish her memories, her son whom she loved dearly, Sammy L. (Shirley) Moore; four grandchildren, Cleon Delaney, Stephanie Ray, Richard (Tiffany) Williams, III and Shanovia (Kevin) Daniel; ten great grandchildren; a special niece, Ida Ann Holloway; and a host of nieces, nephews, a special friend, Scottie Davis; and so many friends whom loved her. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 11:00 at New Beginning Baptist Church. Pastor William Harris officiated. Burial followed at Southview Cemetery.

Jimmy Kilby

Mr. Jimmy Kilby was born January 31, 1942 in Franklin (Heard County) Georgia to John Henry Kilby and Minnie Lou Kelly Kilby. He attended Mary Johnson School in Franklin; and after completing 11 years, he chose to join the U. S. Army where he earned his G. E. D. and was taught many skills. In 1964, he and Floyce Person were married. In 1988, Jimmy Kilby became an employee of Ford Motor Assembly where he was a very dedicated worker. He received several perfect attendance commendations. In 2004, the company moved to another state. He was given an option to move with the company or retire; therefore, he retired, but was very blessed to have been a Zip Coordinator for many of those years.

Many years Jim was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Franklin, Georgia; but thirteen years ago, he became a strong, dedicated, and faithful member of the South Metro Ministries, Sharpsburg, Georgia under the great leadership of Pastor Allan Mathura. On Saturday, April 15, 2017; Jimmy Kilby departed this life at WellStar Atlanta Medical Center South in East Point, Georgia. He leaves many significant survivors including his loving and caring wife, Mrs. Floyce Kilby; four wonderful children, Jimmy LeChan (Rosiland), Micoleena, Maria (Travis) and Lolita, all of Newnan, GA; eight beautiful grandchildren: Tumarrion, Princess, Jordan, Jamaria, Destiny, Trevon, Jevon, and Lela; four loved siblings, Willie (Rose) Kilby, Cincinnati, OH; Mary Nell (Hulett) Burden, Franklin, GA; Oscar (Afonda) Kilby, Chattanooga, TN; Arter (Sylvia) Kilby, Atlanta, GA; two uncles, M. L. (Sissy) Kelley, Winston Kelly, Newnan, GA; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Woodruff, Atlanta, GA; Sarah Person, Franklin, GA; and Cloyce Tucker, Franklin, GA; three very special friends that have supported him for many years, Billy Crumley and Carl Hussie and Jodie Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, who will miss his presence dearly. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday at 1:00 PM at South Metro Ministries, Sharpsburg, Georgia. Pastor Allan Mathura officiated.
