J. O. Barber
Mr. J. O. Barber, age 96, of Luthersville, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, at his home. Mr. Barber was born December 31, 1920, in Newnan, son of the late Bee and Avaline Jones Barber. A resident of Meriwether County most of his life, he established J.O. Barber Lumber Co. in Luthersville in 1946 and owned and operated the company until 2015. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War Two, was a member of White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, and attended Luthersville Baptist Church Survivors include his wife, Mae Barber of Luthersville; daughter, Bertha Barber Hughes of Luthersville and her companion Joe Eady; son and daughter in-law, Jimmy and Janet Barber of Hogansville; grandchildren, Kenny Barber, Karen Barber, Susan Garner and her husband Terence, Chasity Posey and her husband Chris, Chad Barber and his wife Kristin; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers, H.E. Barber and Douglas Barber, both of Newnan. He was preceded in death by his sons, Stanley Barber and Rickey Barber. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 23, at Luthers-ville Baptist Church. The Reverend John Pape, the Reverend Joe Felder, and the Reverend Winston Skinner officiated and interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan. Mavis Garrett
Mrs. Mavis Moore Garrett, age 95, of Hogansville, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017, at LaGrange Nursing and Rehabilitation. Mrs. Garrett was born September 2, 1921, in Heard County, daughter of the late Johnnie and Pearl Wilson Moore. A resident of Hogansville most of her life, she was manager of Allen’s 5 & 10 for many years and retired as a bookkeeper from Clark-Holder Clinic. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Hogansville. She is survived by her sister, Faye Moore Trussell of Fairburn; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Garrett; and her sisters and brothers, Bobbie Arrington, Lucile Wilson, Pierce Moore and Frank Moore. The funeral service was conducted at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, April 23, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Frank Sledge officiated and interment was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. Brenda Virginia Heard
Brenda Virginia Heard was born September 9, 1962 in Chambers County, Alabama to Mr. Willis Junior Heard and Mrs. Willie May Heard. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Five Points, Alabama; and later united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church in LaGrange, Georgia. On Monday, April 17, 2017; Brenda Virginia Hill departed this life at her home in Hogansville, Georgia. She leaves to cherish her memories, her parents, Willis J. Heard and Willie M. Heard; sisters, Jackie (Carl Colton) Heard, Hogansville, GA; Laquita Heard, LaGrange, GA; Kathy (David) Pledger, Columbus, GA; brothers, Willis (Melanie) Heard, Eufaula, AL; George Wayne, Meadows, AL; her companion, Thomas Harris, Hogansville, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Monday at 2:00 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church, Five Points. Pastor Van Shrieves and Dr. W.T. Edmondson officiated. Burial followed at Skyview Memorial Gardens.

A Time To Be Born: Mrs. Kokethia Shanta Hill-Thornton “Ko-Ko” daughter of Robert Hill Sr. and the late Sylvia Jeanette Hill was born May 26, 1982 in Troup County, Georgia. A Time To Plant: She joined Shiloh Baptist Church of Hogansville, Georgia at an early age under the late Rev. C.L. Melson. A Time To Die: God picked a rose with His child’s name on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. A Time To Love: Kokethia was united in Holy Matrimony on April 28, 2012 to her devoted and loving husband, DeAundre Thornton. God also gave her a loving sister who was with her endlessly until her death, Latoya Harden. Bessie Kate Truitt
Mrs. Bessie Kate Truitt, daughter of the late, Carey Smith and Everlina Cannon was born June 6, 1932 in Whitesville, Georgia. She became a member of Threats Grove Baptist Church where she remained until her death. Bessie was a loving and caring wife and mother who enjoyed gardening and doing puzzles. On Thursday, April 20, 2017; Mrs. Bessie Kate Truitt passed away at WellStar West Georgia Hospice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Preacher Truitt; daughters, Thelma Truitt and Patricia Weaver; special son, Louis Middleton; grandson, Anthony Truitt; brothers, R.J. Smith and Leroy Smith; sisters, Katherine Smith, Ruden Smith, and Mary Smith.
