James H. Hamilton Jr. (Jim)
James H. Hamilton Jr. (Jim), loving husband, father, grandfather and community leader, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday May 31, 2017 at home with his family by his side.
He is survived by his children, Scott Hamilton, Paige Kerr, Holly Wells, daughter-in-law, Cindy Hamilton, son-in-law, Mike Wells and grandchildren, Cecilia and Hamilton.
Born and raised in Douglasville, Georgia, Hamilton went on to graduate from the University of Georgia with an A.B.J. and later the AMP program at Harvard Business School. Joining the C & S National Bank in 1952, Hamilton held various positions in Atlanta ranging from branch manager to officer in charge of the residential real estate department. He went on to rise to the roles of President of the C & S Banks of Richmond County, West Georgia (LaGrange), and Augusta.
He was extremely active in civic and economic affairs in Augusta and LaGrange, serving as an active founder and member of the LaGrange Industrial Development Authority with its inception in 1974. He has been credited with much of the vision for that organization, which went on to attract over 25 new manufacturing plants to LaGrange and create over 3000 new jobs by 1980 and continues to contribute new business and jobs to the diverse economic foundation for the region.
Hamilton was an avid skier, sailor, golfer and tennis player as well as a pianist for many years. For much of his adult life, he and his wife, the former Bobby Goen (until her passing in 2015), traveled the world to places such as London, Hong Kong, Paris, Greece and multiple cross-country trips to California.
Hamilton was quick to make lifelong friends from all walks of life and impact everyone with his constant optimism and quick wit. He was a passionate, lifelong learner, using the latest technology to continue to explore the world, new innovations and listen to his favorite composers.
Services for Hamilton will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 2pm at the LaGrange First United Methodist Church, 401 Broad St., LaGrange, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Road, LaGrange, Georgia 30240. James William Foster, Jr
Mr. James William Foster, Jr., age 69, of Pine Mountain, passed away on May 31, 2017 at the WellStar West Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Foster was born on July 6, 1947 in Holly Hills, Florida to the late James William Foster, Sr. and Connie Foster. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Construction Manager for G.S.C. Survivors include his wife, Pamela Turner Foster; sons, James Cody Foster, Chris Foster; daughter, Wendy Foster (Bill); 2 grandchildren; several siblings, extended family and friends. Carol Dianne Baker Thorgesen
Mrs. Carol Dianne Baker Thorgesen, age 69, of LaGrange, passed away on June 1, 2017 at the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Michael Jonathan Thorgesen; son, Jeff Waldrop and his wife Lori; daughter, Jackie Reeves; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel. Interment to follow at Shadowlawn- Hillview Annex. Cornelia Strickland Chapman
Cornelia Strickland Chapman, 79, of Arcadia, FL, died Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Manchester with Rev. Craig Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in Meriwether Memory Gardens with Carlton Crews, Kelly Daniel, Bill Buchanan, Joe Griffith, Bain Griffith and Mike Osterberger serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 3:00 pm prior to the service.
Mrs. Chapman was born August 17, 1937 in Gay, Georgia, the daughter of Sullie and Nan Sitton Strickland. She graduated from Woodbury High School in 1954 and married O. E. “Gene” Chapman on September 18, 1956. She was a former member of Macedonia Baptist Church until her husband’s retirement in 1996 when they began their life as full time travelers in their RV. Mrs. Chapman loved to travel and she and her husband visited every state, except Hawaii and much of Canada. She was preceded in death by her son, Doug Chapman.
Survivors include her husband, O.E. “Gene” Chapman of Arcadia, Fl; her daughter, Tracey Griffith and her husband, Joe of Buchanan, GA; her grandson, Bain Griffith of Athens, GA; two sisters, Linda Buchanan and her husband, Walter of Buckhead, GA, Juanita Fant of St. Simmons Island; one brother, Clayton Strickland of Gillsville, GA and several nieces and nephews.

Charles W. “Bill” Tyson
Funeral services for Charles W. “Bill” Tyson, age 76, of Roanoke, will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tyler Worthey officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Tyson passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Rudean Harvel Tyson; and one daughter, Wanda Tyson of Roanoke.
Pallbearers will be Todd Harvel, Randy East, John Najmeh, Kylie Laws, Randy Hall, and Tim Hall.
A Chambers County native, Mr. Tyson was born on May 8, 1941, the son of Frank and Rebecca Hadaway Tyson. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and worked as an electrician for Amoco Fabrics. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Lacey and Ann Lacey; and one brother, John Tyson.
