Harold Frank Watts

Mr. Harold Frank Watts, 88, of LaGrange, made his Heavenly trip July 5, 2018. Mr. Watts was born April 5, 1930 to the late Lonnie Franklin Watts and Annie Lillian Langford Watts. He was a loving, devoted husband for 62 years to Joy Dean Hicks Watts and a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  Following in his father’s footsteps Mr. Watts was a member of the Masonic Elm City Lodge #544 for over 60 years.  After retiring from Milliken he worked for the City of LaGrange water department. Survivors include sons, James Michael Sprayberry (Julie) of Huntsville; Larry Watts (Monika) of Seattle; Ronnie G. Watts (Judy) of Panama City; daughter, Cheryl Watts Butler (Lowell) of LaGrange; grandchildren, R. Keith Jones, Atlanta; Jeremy Butler (Star) LaGrange; Jay Watts (Natalie), Justin Watts (fiancé Jennifer) all of Cartersville, and Anna Caroline Watts of LaGrange; great-grandchildren, Kevin Bailey Jones and Levi Jones; Chaple Butler and Bentlie Cole-Butler; Jonah and Jackson Watts.  In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Watts was predeceased by his son, Johnny Frank Watts; grandchildren Mary Elizabeth Watts and Kevin Lee Jones; brother Eddie Earl Watts. Mr. Watts was a faithful member of Baptist Tabernacle on South Davis Road. Visitation for Mr. Watts was held Sunday, July 8, 2018 from 1:00 until 3:00p.m. at Baptist Tabernacle. Service followed visitation at 3:00 with Rev. Jimmy McMillian officiating.

Wade Webb

Mr. Wade Webb, 94, of LaGrange passed away July 6, 2018 at LaGrange Hospice, LaGrange, Georgia. He was born in LaGrange on March 26, 1924 to the late Cleveland Otis and Chloel Gamble Webb. Mr. Webb served in the Army during World War II as a fireman who rescued pilots from burning planes as they landed in England. He was later employed at Callaway Mills as well as a security guard at Atlanta Airport.  Mr. Webb is survived by daughters, Virginia Nelson (Buddy), Cathie Lane (Bob), Cindy Collins (Ferrol); step-daughter, Pat Vessell; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and sister Dorothy Bonner; and grand-dog Butterbean. He was predeceased by two wives, Elsie Mae Webb and Sue Elizabeth Webb; brothers, Ray Webb and Raymond Webb; daughter Elizabeth Jane Webb; grandson, David Brian Gauntt. Visitation for Mr. Webb was Saturday, July 7, 2018 from 1:30-3 P.M. the service followed at 3:00 P.M. at Higgins LaGrange Chapel Funeral Home.  Rev. Paul Botica and Rev. Kenneth Cole will officiate. Flowers will be accepted; however, donations may be made to LaGrange Hospice.

James David “Jimmy” Ruiz

Mr. James David “Jimmy” Ruiz, age 47, of LaGrange, passed away on July 8, 2018 at the WellStar West Georgia Medical Center.  Mr. Ruiz was born on April 14, 1971 in LaGrange to Robert Patterson and Martha Sutton Cooley.  His father preceded him in death.  He was self-employed as the Owner of Snap On Automotive.  In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jennifer Lynn Bradley Ruiz; daughters, Mandy Kay Ruiz (Matthew Porritt) and Emily Dianne Ruiz; brother, Joseph Sutton; sister, Renee Lane; grandson, Gavin Lee Porritt; mother in law, Kay Phillips; extended family and friends.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel with interment to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens.  Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 am until service hour at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.higginsfuneralhomes.com.

Diane Bennett

1948 – 2018

Graveside funeral services for Miss Diane Bennett, age 70, of Roanoke will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Randolph Memory Gardens with Rev. Jamie Taylor officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 PM on Monday, July 9 ,2018 before services began. Miss Bennett passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018, at her residence. Survivors include: Cousins, Linda Manley, Ted Bennett both of Roanoke, Deanna Bennett King of Snellville, Ga. and Lynn Bennett Piecuch of LaGrange, Ga., a lifelong friend, Patsy Morris Bundy of Dothan, Al. Pallbearers were Ronnie Bonner, John Glass, Jason Pike, and Jamie Taylor. A Roanoke native, Miss Bennett was born on January 27, 1948, the daughter of Henry W. “Crack” and Lois Ussery Bennett.  She was a member of Cornerstone Church and had been employed as a secretary. Miss Bennet was preceded in death by her parents. Flowers will be accepted or the family requests that donations be made to one’s favorite charity.

Funeral Services for Kathleen Spears, age 69, of Roanoke, will be held on Wednesday, July 11th, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry McDaniel and Rev. Fred Flowers officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home from 5:00- 8:00 PM on Monday, July 9, 2018 and  5- 8 on Tuesday July 10, 2018. Miss Spears passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018, at her residence in Roanoke. Survivors include: two sisters, Fay Stephens of Roanoke and Ann Skraback of Roanoke; one brother; Welsey Spears of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews, including special nieces; Sandra Dunlap, Melissa Bradley, Tabitha Chappell, and Karlee Royster. Pallbearers will be Tyler Wortham, Andrew Hann, Allen Dewberry, Chris Mauldin, Dylan Mauldin, Gary Walding.  Zachary Dewberry, Kyle Dunlap, and Tim Spears will serve as honorary pallbearers. A Roanoke native, Miss Spears was born on September 6, 1948, the daughter of Leon and Lou Mindy McDaniel Spears. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and had been employed by Wal-Mart as a department manager. Miss Spears was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Margaret Walding and Shirleen Spears, and two brothers; Virgil Spears and Lee Spears. The family will accept flowers.

Rashard Akeem Staples

Rashard Akeem Staples was born October 5, 1990 in LaGrange, Georgia to Patrice Staples and the late Tony Phillips. He graduated from Troup High School, Class of 2013. God called our beloved one home on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents:  Jerry and Sarah Ann Staples; great grandparents, Charlie and Hattie Russell; and aunt, Sharon Anderson.  He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Patrice Stales; aunt, Hattie Staples; three brothers:  Regeil (Hillary) Staples, D’Lon (Shandrika) Staples, Marcus Staples; sister, Shamara Parsons (Demontae Hicks); three nephews:  Jeremiah Staples, Jimari Williams, D’Lon Staples, II; two nieces:  D’Lijah Staples, D’Lilah Staples; five cousisn, Jeffery (Tasha) Fuller, Jerrian (Shabrika) Fuller, Javius (Keyanna) Staples, Shundrika Staples, and Wesley Truitt. The Service was Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Advent Lutheran Church, LaGrange.  The family will be at their home at 124 East Crovat Street.

George Edward McCarty

July 18, 1932 – July 7, 2018

Mr. George E. McCarty (MSGT, USAF, retired), age 85, of LaGrange, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. Mr. McCarty was born July 18, 1932, in Newnan, son of the late Nezra Reese McCarty and Laura O’Deal McCarty. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force after serving 20 years during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He then had a second career with the U. S. Postal Service, retiring from the Atlanta Mail Center. Mr. McCarty considered himself a patriot and loved history. He also was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and caring for his yard. Survivors include his wife, Shirley McCarty of LaGrange; daughter, Teresa Steel of LaGrange; sons and daughters in-law, Michael and Delores McCarty of Newnan, Patrick and Susan McCarty of Grantville; sisters, Dianne and Patricia; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. It was Mr. McCarty’s request that no service be conducted. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.

Robert Larry Moore Sr.

Robert Larry Moore Sr. of Pine Mountain, GA went to be with the Lord on Saturday July 07, 2018.  Mr. Moore was born October 9, 1950 in LaGrange, GA to the late William Reuben Moore and Doris Kennon Moore. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church in Pine Mountain GA. Mr. Moore is survived by his lovely wife Barbara Moore; sons Rob (Noelle) Moore, Jarred (Hollie) Moore; daughter Tammy (Derrick) Lynch; grandchildren Bo (Briana) Moore, Chase (Megan) Moore, Hunter Lynch, Brooke Lynch, Lacie Lackey, Lanie Lackey and Aubrie Moore; great-grandchild Hudson Moore; brothers William (Dickie) Moore, Kennon (Dianne) Moore and James (Lonnie) Moore. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wellstar West GA Hospice or Midway Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Bo Moore, Chase Moore, Hunter Lynch, Jamie Thrailkill, Steve Moore, Chris Godfrey, Jeff Fincher, and Marc Marcellini.
