Kenneth McCurry Herring

Kenneth McCurry Herring, age 77, of LaGrange, Georgia passed away on Thursday August 2, 2018 at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. Kenneth was born July 16, 1941 in Orlando, Florida to the late Asben Herring and Ouida Queen Givens Herring. Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Sharon A. Herring; son Kevin Herring; daughter Margaret Ann McBride; and step daughters Jennifer Futrell (Ron) and Toni Schillo; and granddaughter Ashleigh Dahl (Eric), grandson AJ Finton, granddaughters Alecia McBride, Karin McBride, Savannaha Herring. He had three great-grandchildren. Kenneth was in the U. S. Navy for 6 years and served on the USS Franklin D Roosevelt. Kenneth worked for Winter Park Telephone Company and retired in 1993 as Engineer after many years of employment. A memorial service in LaGrange will be announced later by Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Contributions in Kenneth’s memory may be made to American Heart Association; and St. Judes Childrens Hospital.


Mr. Billy Frank Kiser, Sr

Mr. Billy Frank Kiser, Sr., 93, of Franklin, GA passed away Friday, August 3, 2018 at West Georgia Hospice. Mr. Kiser was born February 1, 1925 in Buskirk, KY to the late Willie E. Kiser and Nora Mae Pennington Kiser. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and proudly served his country in the United States Army, in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II, as a Paratrooper. Before owning and operating Kiser Appliance, Mr. Kiser worked for Frigidaire and Linch’s. He was a member of the Moose Club, enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, playing pool and cards. Mr. Kiser was a sports enthusiast, with a love for trucks and El Caminos. He never met a stranger and will be remembered for his jokes and love of his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings, two children, one granddaughter, one great grandchild, and one step daughter. Survivors include his wife, Vonceil N. Kiser; daughters, Dannette (Calvin) Johnson and Suzanne (Frank) Sanders, both of LaGrange, GA; son, Billy (Denise) Kiser Jr., of Ohatchee, AL; stepchildren, Jimmy (Susan) Harris, Mike (Carol) Harris, and Debbie Merrill (Andy Jackson); grandchildren, Chris (Kim) Lanier, Casey (Cindy) Lanier, Carey (Melissa) Lanier, Gus (Mollie) Callaway, Allison (Jon) McCoy, Michael Kiser, David (Ashley) Kiser, Keith (Heather) Johnson, Kim Sanders, Kevin Scott, Casey (Daphne) Merrill, Renee (Troy) Taylor, and Stephanie Palmer; 30 great grandchildren; siblings, June Sisk and Donald Kiser, both of MS; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The Gathering of family and friends will be 10:00am until 11:00am prior to the service at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. A Memorial service will be 11:00am Saturday, August 11, 2018 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Pastor Cade Farris officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Georgia Hospice or the charity of choice in memory of Billy F. Kiser, Sr.


Mrs. Hattie Eugenia Moore Truitt 


Mrs. Hattie Eugenia Moore Truitt was born March 8, 1921 to the late Elijah and Susannah Moore. At an early age, she united with the Eastside Baptist Church on Mason Street; where she later served as Church Secretary. Later in her Christian Journey, she joined the South Park Avenue Church of Christ, until her health began to decline. She devoted her life to the caring of other people. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the following facilities in the city of LaGrange:  City-County Hospital, Maidee Smith Negro Nursing Home, Medcraft Nursing Home, and Royal Elaine Nursing Home. She followed her passion of nursing into the private sector where she rendered private duty services. Hattie entered into Holy Matrimony with Arthur Dick Truitt on December 29, 1940. They were blessed with four sons:  Willie Lewis, Willie Morris, Wilbur, and Sylvester. On Tuesday, July 31, 2018; she departed this life at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to her parents, and her husband, Arthur; she was preceded in death by two sons:  Willie Lewis Truitt and Willie Morris Truitt; granddaughter, Stacy Truitt Miller; great grandson, Antoine Harris; siblings:  Ruth Turner, Willie “B.O.” Moore, George Moore, James Moore, and Herman Moore. She leaves to cherish her memories, sons:  Wilbur (Jearleen Jennings) Truitt, LaGrange, GA: Sylvester (Cindy) Truitt, Indianapolis, IN; three grandchildren she reared as her own:  James “Lil Bit” Truitt, Delaney (Angela) Truitt, Dorothy (Gary) Johnson; sister:  Juanita Woodyard; special personal caregiver, Mrs. Wanda Beasley; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, thirty-two great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and acquaintances. The Funeral Service was Monday, August 06, 2018 at 11:00 AM. It was held at South Park Avenue Church of Christ, 1208 Park Avenue, LaGrange, Georgia 30240.
