Mrs. Johnie Kent

Mrs. Johnie Stephens Kent, 74, of Franklin, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018, at Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville. Mrs. Kent was born April 17, 1944, daughter of the late Joel Wilson Stephens and Sara Jackson Stephens. A lifelong resident of Heard County, she was employed by Playtex International and then by Eckerd Drug Company for thirty years. She enjoyed participating in activities at the Franklin Senior Center and had served as a volunteer at God’s Bread Basket in Hogansville.  She was an active member of Corinth United Methodist Church all of her life, had served as a lay speaker and a youth leader, and had overseen the church’s outreach program to assist those in need. Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Jody Sloat and her husband Matthew of LaGrange; sons, Bob Kent and his wife Linda, Jay Kent and his wife Anitra, all of Franklin; grandchildren, Jesse Kent, Sara Kent, Lexi Foster, Brittney Whitlock, Nichols Whitlock; great-granddaughters, Harper Kent and Rayleigh Edge; and a niece that she considered a daughter, Ann Devereaux. Mrs. Kent was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Kent, infant son, Little Jack Kent, and brother, Joel F. Stephens. The funeral service was conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 10, at Corinth United Methodist Church.  Interment followed in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Heard County. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Sunday night.



 Mr. James Larry Bain

Mr. James Larry Bain, age 71, of LaGrange, passed away at his home on September 8, 2018.  He was born in Tallassee, Alabama on March 26, 1947 to the late Charles William Bain and the late Minnie Thornton Bain.  He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp.  He owned and operated Bain’s Body Shop.  Mr. Bain was a member of the D.A.V., V.F.W., American Legion and a Mason in the Hogansville Masonic Lodge #93.  He was a long-time member of the Ayers Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Bain is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pamela Sue Dodson Bain; his daughter, Mandy Bain Whatley; his brothers, Buddy Bain (Sandra) and Kenneth Bain (Mary); his sister, Ann Yarbrough (Larry); granddaughter, Chloe Whatley and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at Higgins LaGrange Chapel on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 3 p.m. Pastor Wayne Hester officiated.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until service time on Tuesday.  A committal service directly followed the funeral and was held at Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange.  In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to Ayers Memorial United Methodist Church, 2771 W Point Rd, LaGrange, GA 30240 .


Harold Lee Railey

Harold Lee Railey “Shade Tree”, age 77, of LaGrange, passed away at his residence on September 07, 2018. He was born on June 20, 1941 to the late John Railey and Annie B. Thaxton Railey in Heard County. He was a truck driver for the Road Way Express for over 20 years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughters, Lynn Railey, Rhonda Railey, Denise Railey; son in law, Eddy Holly. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Railey; daughters, Elaine May (Tony); Tammy Holly; sister, Lucy May; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; extended family and friends. Visitation was held from 1:00-3:00 PM on Monday, September 10, 2018 at the family home, 631 Costley Road, LaGrange, GA 30240. A graveside service followed at the Pine Mountain City Cemetery.




Mark Alan Wilson

Mark Alan Wilson, age 58 of LaGrange, Ga., passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. Mark was born March 30, 1960 in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Bob and Marlene Wilson. He was a supervisor for Advanced Handling Systems, Inc. in LaGrange and was an avid antique car enthusiast. He enjoyed attending car shows and his favorite pastime while at home was watching the Velocity channel and any auto related television shows. In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Wilson, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Wilson of LaGrange; two step-children, Christopher Jackson of Correyton, TN, and Brandy Nicole Kelso of Griffin, Ga.; step-grandchildren, Blake Jackson, Ava Jackson, Scarlette Rayne Kelso and Violet Skye Kelso; a sister, Patricia Lake (Edward) of Higganum, CT.; and a nephew, Edward Wilson, Jr. of Meriden, CT. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pine Mountain Valley First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 121, Pine Mountain Valley, Ga. 31823.
