McKibben

William J. (Bill) Smith

Mr. William J. (Bill) Smith, 89, of Franklin, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018, at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, Alabama. Mr. Smith was born October 19, 1928, in Carroll County, son of the late Joseph LaVaughn Smith and Nora Elizabeth Knott Smith.  A veteran of service in the U.S. Army, he was a retired master plumber and certified electrician and had also served as maintenance director for the Hogansville Housing Authority.  Mr. Smith was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and had been a member of Ephesus Christian Church in Carroll County for 77 years.  Preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Conner Smith, he is survived by his daughters and sons in-law, Robin Cole of West Point, Beverly and Bill Simmons, Martha and James McCormick all of Franklin, Susan McCormick and Darnell Williams of Warm Springs, Rebecca and Charles Woodard of Valley, AL; sister, Rosa Soles of Newnan; 14 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 1, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville.  Minister Tim Cook and Minister J. C. Cook officiated and interment was in Ephesus Christian Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 5 until 8 Sunday night.

 

Mrs. Wylene Herndon

Wylene Herndon passed away September 30, 2018 at Hospice LaGrange, after years of declining health.  She is survived by her husband, William J. Herndon; children, Cornelius (Pam) Herndon, Cindy Bailey, Tim (Missy) Herndon and Chad (Tisa) Herndon; grandchildren, Kristy (Kevin) Reynolds, Steven (Heather) Herndon, Wil (Crystal) Bailey, Dustin Herndon, Haley (Craig) Smith, Kirstin (Jordon) Carnes, Madison Carnes and Blakely Herndon; great-grandchildren, Kelly Carlisle, Kimberly Reynolds, John Herndon, Anna Herndon, Noah Herndon, William Bailey, Jr., Lillie Bailey, Emma Bailey, Abby Bailey, Avery Bailey, and Braydon Lasater.  She is preceded in death by her mother, Louise Strickland; father, Lonnie Strickland; sisters, Sybil Gaddy, Irene Johnson and Sara Bugg; brothers, Randall Strickland and Henry Strickland; and granddaughter, Celia Bailey Knight.  Wylene was retired from LaGrange College and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was a wedding caterer, seamstress, crafter and amateur horticulturist. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 3, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. Rev. Randall Dunlap and Rev. Donnie Benefield will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Tuesday night.

 

Mrs. Ruth Yarbrough

Mrs. Ruth Johnson Yarbrough, 94, of Hogansville, passed away Monday, October 1, 2018, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center.  Mrs. Yarbrough was born September 19, 1924, in Carroll County, and lived in Hogansville most of her life.  She retired from Uniroyal, Inc. after many years of service and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in LaGrange. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lewis Quillian Yarbrough and Claude Hulet Johnson. Survivors include her sons and daughter in-law, Tony and Donna Johnson of Hogansville, Ronnie Johnson of Panama City Beach, FL, and Lamar Johnson of Hogansville;  step-son and daughter in-law, Sherman and Lynn Yarbrough of Panama City Beach; granddaughters and their husbands, Crissy Pursley and Lamar Hancock, Brittany and Cody Lynch; and great-grandchildren, Aden Hancock, Brody Lynch, Bowen Lynch and Reece Lynch. The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 3, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville.  The Reverend Brandon Brooks will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Tuesday night.

Howard Edward Pittman

Mr. Howard Edward Pittman, age 77, passed away on September 30, 2018 at Florence Hand Home.  Mr. Pittman was born on June 22, 1941 in LaGrange to the late Dewey Pittman and Julia Middlebrooks Pittman.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired from Playtex.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 siblings.  Survivors include his son, Kenneth Pittman; daughter, Lisa Pike; brother, Allen Pittman; grandchildren, Matthew Bass (Shahidah), Kelli Pike, Kaleigh Pike and Meri Pittman; great grandchild, Sophie Bass; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel.  Interment will follow at Meadoway Gardens.  Family received friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

 Mary Joyce Allison Scott

Mary Joyce Allison Scott, 80, of LaGrange, GA was beckoned into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from her home. Mrs. Scott was born June 26, 1938 in LaGrange, GA to the late Amon Bryant Allison and Letha Lee Bryant Allison. She was a member of East LaGrange Baptist Church and owned and operated Style and Set Beauty Salon for more than 50 years, working beside her daughter for the last 38 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Curtis Leon Scott. She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Radney Houze; her loving and faithful caregivers, Barrie Huling, Gayle Studdard and Yolanda Sanders; many cousins and special friends, Jesse and Marie Boyd. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to St. Jude’s or Alzheimer’s Research in memory of Mary Joyce Scott.  The Gathering of Family and Friends was held on October 2, 2018 from11:00 am – 2:00 pm with the Celebration of Life immediately following at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel.
