Cindy Wilson, 44, of West Point, Georgia passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Emory Midtown Hospital. Cindy was born August 12, 1974 in LaGrange, GA. to the James William Brooks, Jr. and the late Sandra Langford Jersey. Cindy is survived by her husband, Mark Wilson; son, Michael Brooks; daughter, Alex Wilson; brother, Randall Johnson, Mark Brooks, sister, Jennifer Sanders, Renee Cone, Rebecca Miller and sister Veronica Yoder; mother, Anne Brooks; grandmother, Annie Langford; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service was Monday, October 29, 2018 at 3:00pm in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel. The Gathering of Family and Friends was from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
Mrs. Joanne Leverett
Mrs. Joanne Thornton Leverett, of LaGrange, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Hospice LaGrange. Mrs. Leverett was born April 19, 1932, in Atlanta, daughter of the late Jewell Leon Thornton and Ruth Thompson Thornton. A resident of LaGrange for 44 years, she was a member of First United Methodist Church of LaGrange. She assisted her late husband during the early years of his medical practice, but spent most of her life as a homemaker, loving mother, and doting grandmother. Survivors include her children, Edward Raymond Leverett, Jr. and his wife Sally of Adairsville, Joe Wesley Leverett and his wife Brenda of LaGrange, Laurie Kathryn Leverett of LaGrange, and Leslie Anne Leverett-Dodds and her husband Kris of Columbus; daughter in-law, Joyce Leverett of LaGrange; brother and sister in-law, Leon and Pat Thornton of Douglasville; grandchildren Traci Ball and her husband Michael, Jason Roberts and his wife Karen, Brittain Leverett, John Leverett and his wife Jessica, Kendall Ham and her husband Ray, Eryn Lokker and her husband Nathan, and J. C. Dodds; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward Raymond Leverett; son, John Thornton Leverett; and sisters, Becky Pettway and Jean Howington. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 29, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Kenneth Kulp and the Reverend Bob Humphries officiated and interment was held in Restlawn Memory Gardens. The family received friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 Monday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Florence Hand Home Charitable Trust, Hospice LaGrange Charitable Trust, Troup County Unit of American Heart Association, or to a favorite charity of the donor.

Mrs. Vickie O’Neal Searels, 65, of Hogansville, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018, at Northside Hospital in Atlanta. Mrs. Searels was born March 14, 1953, in Newnan, daughter of the late Robert (Bob) O’Neal and Frances Phillips O’Neal Daniel. A lifelong resident of Hogansville, she was a 1971 graduate of Hogansville High School, and was employed by Carter’s prior to her retirement. She was a member of Springhill Baptist Church, where she served as church treasurer and pianist. Survivors include her husband, Danny J. Searels of Hogansville; sons and daughters in-law, Matt Searels of LaGrange, Cory and Kristi Searels of LaGrange, and Cary and Donna Searels of Pine Mountain; sisters, Barbara Johnson of Albany and Jennifer Seymour of Hogansville; grandchildren, Shawn Searels, Chase Searels, Neal Searels, Austin Searels and Wyatt Searels; two great-grandchildren and another soon to arrive. The funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 30, at Springhill Baptist Church. The Reverend Jody Mitchell officiated and interment was held in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Monday night.

Mrs. Carrie Lakes Hand Owens
Mrs. Carrie Lakes Hand Owens was born June 13, 1937 to the late Mac Brown and Gennie Lakes Brown. She graduated from East Depot High School where she played basketball and was an awesome softball player. She completed Troup Tech. Mrs. Owens served as interim Judge for the Magistrate Court and was the first African American female to run for the office in LaGrange, Georgia. She went on to work for Kaydon, Corporation where she retired. Carrie was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed flowers and her true passion was gardening and being around family and friends. She was a great cook, loved to entertain, and enjoyed family gatherings. She adored her children. On Thursday, October 25, 2018; our beloved Carrie passed away at her home in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Roosevelt Owens and brother, Elkin Strozier, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Theresa S. Brown Hand, Victor (Melissa) Hand, Sr., Wayne D. Hand, John H. Hand, Jr., Angela (Blair) Hand Gomez, and Pamela (Archie) Hand Smith; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; siblings: Christine (Jimmie) Boykin, Mary Alice Brown, Melvin Brown, and Raymond (Linda) Brown; special niece, Melva Brown Malone; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The Service will be Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Brother Arthur Hall, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.
