 Melanie Starr

Melanie Starr, 72, of Pine Mountain, GA passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018 at St. Francis Medical Hospital in Columbus, GA. Mrs. Starr was born September 30, 1946 in LaGrange, GA to the late Hoyt Augustas Starr, Jr. and Ruth Helen Woodard Starr. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and retired from Mersk Shipping Lines as a Freight Auditor. She was affiliated with Toast Masters and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include her sister, Phyllis (Richard) Turner; nephews, Brandon (Trullsa) Turner Sr., Justin (Rebecka) Turner, Austin (Nikki) Starr; niece, Dannielle (Jeff) Cannon; grand nieces and nephews, Brandon Michael Turner Jr, Lorean Bailey Turner, Abigail McBrayer, Daniel McBrayer, Larsson Turner, Olivia Carson, Autumn Slate, Sage Slate, Ava Starr, Adlee Starr, Asher Starr; cousins, Rick (Terri) Starr, Jack (Debbie) Starr, Donna (Kenneth) Thompson, Jennifer Sharmin, and numerous cousins of the Woodard family. The gathering of family and friends was Sunday, November 4, 2018 from1:00pm until 2:30pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Graveside services were held at 3:00 P.M.  Janice Deliah Overton

Janice Deliah Overton, 68, of Roanoke, AL was ushered into the arms of Jesus Monday, November 5, 2018 from Tanner Health System in Carrollton, GA. Mrs. Overton was born September 14, 1950 in Rome, GA to the late George Richard Lindsey and Dealie Belle Smith Lindsey. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church and retired from Harrell’s Cleaners. Mrs. Overton was a God-fearing woman that loved her church, her family, traveling, and the outdoors. She showed God’s love by taking care of the sick and helping anyone in need. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jonathon Lamar Hammonds and a brother, Cliff Lindsey. Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Stan Overton; daughters, Kattie Melisa McLeod, Rebecca Morrison (Mike), Janet Gore (Mike); sons, Wiley Hammonds Jr (Linda Tomlin), James Overton (Tina), and David Overton (Cassie); siblings, Jimmy Lindsey, Elaine Jenkins, Dewayne Lindsey, Linda Garrett, Pat Timms, and Jack Lindsey; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. The Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00pm Sunday, November 11, 2018 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Rev. Doug Morris and Rev. Terry Wood officiating.   Mr. John Posey

Mr. John Paul Posey, Sr., of LaGrange, passed away on November 02, 2018 at his residence. He was born on December 18, 1929 to the late James Posey and Mary Lee Hunter Posey in Warm Springs, GA. John proudly served in the United States Navy for 4 years. He worked for General Motors Parts and retired after 32 years. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley Ann Liles Posey; son, John Posey, Jr. (Jennie), Greg Posey (Angie), Terry Posey (Tiffany); grandchildren, Amanda Stitcher (Chris), Zachary Posey (Presley), Corey Posey (Erika), Skyler Posey, Jason Posey, Libby Kayte Posey, Jax Posey, Bryson Posey, Justin Posey, Megan Posey, Katelyn Posey, Caleb Posey, Nick Posey, Mikey Posey, Zander Posey, Grace Posey, Jayden Posey, Zoe Posey; great grandchildren, Chelci Stitcher, Elijah Stitcher, Zephyr Posey, Brody Posey, Aria Posey, Myla Posey; brother, George Posey (Betty), Randall Posey (Deborah), Bobby Posey (Nita), James Posey; sisters, Ann Tennant, Mattie Maxwell, JoAnn Faircloth, Betty Gilbert; many foster children loved by him and his family.  Mrs. Judy Crow

Judith Elaine Cook Crow, age 79, of LaGrange, passed away on November 02, 2018 at Florence Hand Home. She was born on January 30, 1939 to the late Roy Cook, Sr. and Dora Mae O’Neal Cook in LaGrange. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Wendell G. Crow; son, Michael Crow. Survivors include her sons, Bud Crow (Deana), Rodney Crow (Michelle); daughters, Wendy Lyons (David), Pam Parmer (Kenneth); brother, Roy Cook, Jr.; sister, Barbara Huber (Aaron); grandchildren, Chad, Drew, Meagan, Wesley, Brent, Emily, Brittney, Austin, Blake, Bryan; great grandchildren, Adaly, Greyson, Haisley, Lorali, Aria, Harrison, Lola Grace, Jon Wesley, Rozen Reid, Lander Hayes, Grady, Ella, Bailey, Levi; extended family and friends. Interment followed at Shadowlawn Cemetery.


 Mrs. Marilyn Allen

Marilyn Adelle Taylor Allen, age 79, of LaGrange, passed away on November 02, 2018 at WellStar West Georgia Hospice. She was born on July 10, 1939 to the late Willard Taylor and Adelle Hunter Taylor in LaGrange. She retired from the Troup County Board of Education where she was the Superintendent Administrator Assistant. Survivors include her husband, George Terrell Allen; daughters, Lisa Shields (Mike), Cherie Bebow (Peter); sisters, Carol Tally (Stan), Brenda Townsend (Danny); grandchildren, Megan Shields, Jordan Shields Hartzog Marshall), Emily Shields, Peyton Bebow, Brock Bebow; aunt, Elizabeth McWilliams; nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel with Rev. Max McCord and Rev. Don Ellison officiating. Ruth Marita West

Mrs. Ruth West, Widow of the late John Thomas “Tom” West M.D., passed away November 3, 2018 in LaGrange. Ruth was born February 19, 1922 in Seattle Washington to the late Carl and Mabel C. Blakely. Mrs. West is survived by her children, Phyllis Ernsberger (John) of Portland, OR; Rebecca Okie (Dick) of Warner Robins, GA; James West of LaGrange ; Jeffrey West (Deborah) of Seattle, WA; and Paul West of LaGrange. She leaves seven grandchildren: Abraham Okie, Rebecca Scott, Tom Okie, Karl Ernsbereger, Ellen Hoover, Charlotte Swanson and Deanna Hart, as well as 17 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date at First Presbyterian Church.  Jeanine Cook Rainwater

Mrs. Jeanine Cook Rainwater, 80, of Hogansville, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018, at her home. Mrs. Rainwater was born January 23, 1938, in Newnan, daughter of the late Harvey and Gladys Cook. She was a homemaker, was a talented musician, and served as pianist for Turin Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, Bobby McCoy; daughter, Jeannie Rolfe, both of Hogansville; granddaughter, Cindy Ann; and brother, Wayne Cook of Newnan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred T. Rainwater; daughter, Joy McCoy; granddaughter, Rachel Nell McCoy; and brother, David Cook. The funeral service was conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 4, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend John McDuffie, Jr. and the Reverend Russell Arrington officiated and interment followed in First White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 2 until 3 Sunday afternoon.

Edna C. Barber

Mrs. Edna C. Barber, 92, of Grantville, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018, at her home.
Mrs. Barber was born March 12, 1926, in Fitzgerald, daughter of the late Frank and Thelma Holtzclaw Campbell. A member of Antioch Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, she had been employed at West Point Pepperell in Grantville and at Mae’s Florist, had also operated her own florist in Greenville, and had delivered homebound meals in Hogansville until 2006. Mrs. Barber enjoyed making arts and crafts items and had exhibited her work at many area festivals. Survivors include her sons, Ray Barber and Dennis Barber, both of Grantville; grandchildren, Edgar Barber, Donna Dean, Scott Barber, Dwayne Barber, Shane Barber, Neal Barber, Amy Hendrix, Ann Barber, Frank Barber; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Barber; and her son, Edwin Barber. The funeral service was conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 6, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Allen Kirk and the Reverend Tommy McLeroy officiated and interment followed in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Monday night.




 Corbin Mark Davis

Funeral services for Corbin Davis, age 29, of Lagrange, Ga will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM from Big Springs Baptist Church with Scott Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at Big Springs Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. Mr. Davis will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services beginning. Mr. Davis passed away on November 3, 2018 at Macon, Georgia. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Hillary Kerr Davis of LaGrange, GA.; an unborn child; his parents, Scot and Lisa Stanfield Davis of Roanoke; one sister, Callie Baldwin (Nick) of Roanoke; one nephew, Riley Camp Baldwin of Roanoke. Pallbearers will be Terry D Stanfield Jr., Derriel Stanfield, Stephen Davis, Lew Moore, Andrew Watts, Caleb Hannah and Marcus Hunt. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ben Davis, Scott Stanfield II, Trey Eslinger, Nic Swann, Jeremy Loftin, Jay Davis and Logan Daniel

A Roanoke native, Mr. Davis was born on April 5, 1989, the son of Scot and Lisa Stanfield Davis. He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church and worked as a Maintenance Technician at Interface Flooring Systems. He was an avid sportsman and he loved Auburn football.
