Sally Ann Hester
Sally Ann Hester, 88, of LaGrange, GA peacefully passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Florence Hand Home. Mrs. Hester was born April 11, 1930 in LaGrange, GA to the late Edgar Word Smith and Docie Pearl Kirby Smith. She retired from Playtex, Inc. after many years of service and was a member of First Assembly of God in LaGrange. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Hester; grandchild, Mitch England; sister, Frances Edmondson; and brother, Edgar Smith. Survivors include her children, Pat and David England of West Point, GA; Jean and Danny Farmer of Newnan, GA; Eddie and Denise Hester of Phenix City, AL; Keith Hester of LaGrange, GA; Douglas and Teresa Hester of LaGrange, GA; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Henderson and Maxine Smith both of LaGrange; brother, Calvin Smith of Virginia; special caregiver, Kathleen Teague; other relatives and friends. The Gathering of family and friends was held from 11:00am until 12:00pm prior to the service at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Funeral services were 12:00pm Saturday, December 1, 2018 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Pastor Michael Hornsby officiating. Burial followed in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
Brandon Rashaud Swint
Mr. Brandon Rashaud Swint was born October 17, 1990 to Sheila Swint and the late, George Swint
in LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia. He was educated at Lyndon B. Johnson Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center in Franklin, North Carolina; and received his Plumbing Certification. Brandon was employed by Yamaha Motors in Newnan, Georgia. On Thursday, November 22, 2018; Brandon departed this life in DeKalb County, Georgia. He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Sheila Swint; grandmother, Hazel Tucker; aunts and uncles: Kelvin (Varona) Ware, Rachel Ware Rhondelle (Paul) Edwards, Lamar Swint, Dennis Swint, Dexter (LaTonya) Swint, Mark Swint, Teyanna (David) Keeler; and a host of cousins and friends. Funeral Service was held Saturday, December 01, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Franklin, Georgia.
Jimmy E. Driver
Mr. Jimmy E. Driver, 74, of LaGrange, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at his home. Mr. Driver was born June 21, 1944 in Randolph County, Alabama, son of the late Garfield and Ora Butler Driver. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a retired building contractor and was known for his excellent craftsmanship. He was a member and deacon of Grace Baptist Church and enjoyed visiting with members of the 86th Engineer Land-clearing Platoon (Vietnam, 1967-68). Mr. Driver was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Driver of LaGrange; daughters, Vicki and James Boggs of LaGrange, Patti and Jonathan McClellan of Franklin, Tiffany and Terry Posey of Pine Mountain, Jennifer and Riley Bowles of LaGrange; grandchildren, Amanda (Chris) Stitcher, Hannah (John Mark) Smith, Cody (Ansley) Vann, Rette Knight, J. D. Blakley, Riley Bowles, Jr., Aden McClellan, Savannah Boggs, Nick Posey, Christopher Bowles, Mikey Posey, Zander Posey, Jayden Posey, Hanna Grace Posey and Zoe Posey; great-grandchildren, Chelci Stitcher, Isaak Stitcher, Trinity Brookshire, Pierce Smith, Trenton Vann, Jaxson Smith; brother, Larry Driver of Mobile, AL; aunt, Eula Childress; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughters, Lindsey Bowles and Ada Posey; great-granddaughter, Lilly Brookshire; and brothers, J. R. (Buck) Driver, Bobby Driver, Roger Driver, Harlis Driver, and Billy Driver. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 2, at Grace Baptist Church in LaGrange. The Reverend Donnie Benefield, the Reverend Mark Peak and the Reverend Jonathan McClellan officiated and interment was at Gray Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors. The family received friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 Saturday night and at the church from 1 until 2 Sunday afternoon. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
Angelene Barker, 96, died November 25, 2018 at her home in Pine Mountain, Georgia surrounded by her family. She was born January 19, 1922 in Carrollton, Georgia the eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. H. L. Barker. She graduated from Carrollton High School where she was valedictorian. She held a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of West Georgia. She served her country at the Naval Shipyard in Jacksonville, Florida during WWII. Following the war, she accepted a position with the Pershing Point Hotel in Atlanta. That began a 23 year career in resort management, most of which was with Jack Tar Resorts International where she served in various senior management roles. Her postings were both national and international with the majority of her career spent in Florida. She was one of the first women hotel sales managers in the state of Florida. During this time, she served as Vice President of the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors for the Savannah YWCA, and District Representative to the Florida Travel Council. Following her retirement from the resort industry, she returned to Carrollton and completed her Master’s degree in Education at the University of West Georgia. She then completed a second 20 year career as a Business Education Teacher where she help introduce computers to the business classroom and supervised students in cooperative work experience programs. Following her retirement from her second career, she accepted a part-time position in the College of Business at the University of West Georgia teaching business and professional writing. In community service, she served on the Carrollton City Schools Foundation Board -where she served as its founding Chair, Chair of the Carroll County Library Board, Secretary of the West Georgia Regional Library Board, the Tanner Medical Foundation Board, President of the West Georgia Alumni Board – where she received the Alumni Loyalty Award, founding Board Secretary of the Friends of the Library, and Chaired the Carroll County Cemetery & Burial Ground Oversight Committee. She was active in the Carrollton First United Methodist Church where she served as Administrative Board Chair, Board of Trustees, Nominating Committee, and was chair of the greeters at the eleven o’clock service for some 25 years. She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. and Mrs. H. L. Barker and sisters Betty Barker, Joyce Barker Robertson, Dester Barker Neal, and nephew Dennis Clancy. She is survived by nieces and nephews Ann Clancy, Sue and Jim Trott, of Pine Mountain; Joyce Robertson Rogers, Phenix City, Alabama; Joe and Leslie Robertson, Columbus, Georgia; John and Karen Robertson, Auburn, Alabama. A memorial service will be held on December 15 at 11 AM at First United Methodist Church of Pine Mountain. A graveside service will be held on December 17 at 2 PM at Carrollton City Cemetery, Carrollton, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Angelene Barker Endowed Scholarship in the Richards College of Business, University of West Georgia Foundation, 1601 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA 30118.
