• Sunday evening about 6:49 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to the Walmart on New Franklin Road in reference to shoplifting.

While en route, police were advised that the suspect had fled from the store in a black Honda Accord headed south on New Franklin Road.

Police then located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop near Mooty Bridge Road and New Franklin Road. The driver and sole occupant, Kendall Darrell Goosby, was then detained.

Goosby later admitted that he had been at Walmart and had taken three unpurchased shower heads, valued at $23.84 each, to the customer service counter in the hopes of fraudulently receiving a Walmart gift card. The customer service employee advised him he could not get a gift card, but he could exchange them for other merchandise.

Goosby stated he then went and selected a pair of Turtle Beach headphones, but when he returned to the counter the clerk asked for his ID. Goosby then began to suspect the clerk knew what was happening, so he began to exit the store.

While exiting the store, Loss Prevention attempted to stop him and asked him to step into an office, but Goosby stated he knew that he was about to get caught, so he ran to his vehicle to flee from the location.

Goosby was later transported back to Walmart, where Loss Prevention employees advised that he had done the exact same thing the previous night around 6:49 p.m. At the time Goosby returned two of the same shower heads and received a Walmart gift card for their value.

Goosby then admitted to the earlier incident and advised that he still had the Walmart gift card in his possession.

The gift card was then returned to Walmart and Goosby was placed under arrest.

As a result, Goosby, age 44, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with two counts of Theft by Shoplifting.

Goosby was later released from the Troup County Jail on bond.

• Saturday night about 8:13 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to Sunny Point Circle in reference to financial card fraud.

Officers arrived and met with the complainant, who stated that someone had stolen his parent’s visa debit card and used it to make a $1,030 purchase in at a Target in Fayetteville, GA. There were three other attempted purchases, two in Peachtree City, GA, and one in Opelika, AL. The three attempts were unsuccessful due to the bank’s fraud department deactivating the card after the initial unauthorized purchase.

The complainant stated he has power of attorney over his parent’s affairs due to their declining health and was reviewing their financial transactions when he noticed the unauthorized purchase. The initial transaction occurred on January 12, 2018 using his mother’s card. He then noticed this transaction and contacted the bank, who had flagged the purchase as suspicious and deactivated the card. The fraud department advised him to file a police report, so they can investigate the matter further.

This incident is still under investigation.
