LaGrange Police have charged two suspects connected to an incident where a residence was shot up with an assault rifle and burglarized.

Early Saturday morning, about 12:27 a.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to the 200 block of Vine Street in reference to reports of active gunfire in the area.

When officers arrived there was no gunfire, but police spotted three males putting a television into a grey Nissan Altima that was parked at the rear of a residence on Vine Street. As soon as the subjects saw police, they fled on foot from the vehicle towards Gardner Street. A fourth subject, Thilinius Marquis Gray, was then found in the driver’s seat of the Altima and he was detained without incident.

Gray was found sitting inside his vehicle with an AK-47 assault rifle in the passenger seat, along with several televisions and an Xbox One video game console.

Gray initially told police that he was simply sitting in his car, waiting on his cousin, when the three males walked up to his vehicle and told him that they needed a ride. He claimed one of the males put the AK-47 rifle into his passenger seat and the other two males started loading televisions into his vehicle.

Police say that when they secured the rifle, the barrel was still hot to the touch.

Several bullet holes were then found throughout the exterior of the residence and the front door appeared to have been kicked in. Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time of the incident.

The LaGrange Police Department Criminal Investigations Division responded and initiated an investigation into the incident. Investigators later determined that a prior altercation with the homeowners had occurred at the residence and Joshua Lee Maddox returned to the residence with two other unknown subjects and fired multiple gunshots into the home using the assault rifle. The subjects then allegedly entered the home and removed the televisions and Xbox console.

Maddox was located a short time later and taken into custody.

As a result, Maddox, age 22, and Gray, age 28, were arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where they were booked into the jail.

Maddox was charged with one count of Burglary and Gray was charged with one count of Party to a Crime Burglary and Reckless Conduct. Police say more arrests are expected from this case. This incident remains under active investigation by the LaGrange Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
