Tigers Suffer Blowout 43-10 Loss to Cartersville in Region Championship

Staff Writer

The Troup High Tigers got a taste of their own medicine at Cartersville for the region championship. After blowing out opponents throughout the regular season, the Tigers, who entered the game 9-0, suffered a crushing 43-10 defeat at the hands of the Purple Hurricanes.

The Tigers found themselves down earlier, trailing 21-3 at the end of the first quarter. A usually dynamic and explosive offense was eventually held to just three points in the first half by a suffocating Cartersville defense. Troup, however, couldn’t get a stop and fell 28-3 by half.

Quarterback Kobe Hudson, the Tigers’ best playmaker, managed a four-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to give Troup their first and only touchdown of the game. And despite some defensive success in the third, the Tigers would ultimately fall 43-10.

The Tigers look to rebound from their first loss of the year in the first round of the Class AAAA playoff games on Thursday. Troup will face off against a 6-4 Oconee County team from Watkinsville, Georgia.

The Cavaliers, who are ranked second in Class AA following Heard County’s demolition of Bremen Friday, will host Elbert County in the Class AA state playoffs.
