County Recognizes Longtime Employees, Lifts Freeze to Hire Five More

During Tuesday’s Troup County Board of Commissioners Meeting, the county recognized several longtime employees for their service and agreed to hire a few more.

The county opened the meeting by recognizing Troup County Chief Finance Officer Hurbert “Buddy” Cashwell, Deputies Cpl. Stephen D’Angelo and Edward Haralson, of the Sheriff’s Office; Mental Health Coordinator Tiffany Hutchinson, and Deputy Marshal Christopher McGhee for their five years of service to Troup County.

Civil Engineer James Kinnersley, of Roads & Engineering; Parks Maintenance Worker Harvey McCord, Deputy Chief Appraiser Dan Smith, and Troup County Sheriff’s Investigator Patrick Tunnell were recognized for 10 years of service.

Sanitation Equipment Operator Renzo Bates, Jr., Detention Officer LaShanta Gray, and Firefighter/ EMT Andreas Harrilson were recognized for their 15 years of service.

Deputies Sgt. Michael “Curt” Nation and Cindy Jones, of the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were also recognized for their 20 years of service.

The county also individually recognized Troup County Human Resources Director Valerie P. Heard for her 25 years of service and Fire Lieutenant/EMT Norman Robinson for his 30 years of service.

The Board of Commissioners later approved a lifting of the hiring freeze to add four Road Maintenance Workers to the roads department. County Engineer James Emery advised that the need for workers has become a significant hindrance to the productivity of the department and the workload has significantly increased due to recent flooding.

The commissioners also signed off on lifting the hiring freeze to replace a part-time convenience center worker who recently resigned due to health reasons.

Valerie Heard receives her 25 year service award.

Norman Robinson receives his 30 year service award.
