Man Steals Car, Hides In Bathroom

LaGrange Police have arrested a man on several felony charges after he allegedly stole a vehicle out of Alabama and then attempted to barricade himself in a bathroom to avoid police.

Thursday morning about 8:15 a.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department received information indicating a vehicle stolen out of Alabama was now in LaGrange.

Police were informed that the grey Ford Focus was located by GPS and had been disabled on Johnson Street near East Depot Street.

Officers responded to the area and located the stolen vehicle in front of an abandoned house in the 300 block of Johnson Street. While on scene, police spoke with a witness who advised the vehicle arrived earlier in the morning and the driver went into a nearby residence, which they pointed out.

Police then attempted to make contact at the residence and after knocking on the door several times, a male finally answered the door. The male was then questioned about the vehicle and he denied knowledge of who had been driving the car.

In the meantime, police observed another male attempt to flee out the rear of the residence, but then run back inside upon seeing police.

The male at the front door then allowed police inside and the fleeing suspect was observed running into a bathroom. The suspect then refused to come out, so officers attempted to force the bathroom door open, but the suspect actively resisted on the other side.

Eventually, officers were able to forcibly open the door and the suspect was taken into custody without need for additional force.

The male, later identified as Charles Conrad Davidson, was then search to arrest and he was found to be in possession of a key to the stolen Ford Focus, three rings, and blue latex gloves. Police also located a cigarette pack containing an amount of crack cocaine that was found hidden underneath a heater in the bathroom.

Davidson was also determined to have a warrant for his arrest out of Troup County for Felony Probation Violation.

Police also collected a large amount of old coins, a computer, and a black bag the other male subject stated did not belong to him and were brought to the location by Davidson.

Police later spoke with officers from the Valley Alabama Police Department who advised the Ford Focus was reported stolen at about 4:30 a.m. earlier in the morning.

As a result, Davidson, age 32, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail and charged with Theft – Bringing Stolen Property Across State Lines, Possession of Cocaine, Entering Auto Theft, Obstruction of Officers, Theft, and Probation Violation.

The vehicle was later returned to the rightful owner.

Davidson is currently being held at the Troup County Jail where he was denied bond.
