A Night Without A Roof On The Square

On the night of December 4, many gathered downtown at the square in order to raise awareness for homelessness. Many people in our country and in our very own city live every night without even a roof over their head. The Troup County Homeless Coalition is taking steps in order to make sure that people know what is going on in their community.

“ANight WithoutARoof” encouraged people to take one night to sleep on the square downtown in a cardboard box in order to raise awareness and donations. The cost was $25 dollars to participate, the funds of which went directly to helping the homeless here in Troup County.

The shelters here in La-Grange are bursting at the seams and there needs to be drastic help in order to accommodate those that are in need. This annual program helps not only by letting people have this experience, but also gives money to those places that are helping to feed and house the homeless.

Citizens came to the square and were provided some amazing spiritual blessing and great entertainment. Also, food was provided by the various local restaurants on the square, happy to help out with this important fundraiser.

The TCHC gathers people from various businesses, churches, and local organizations to help participate in the event. Around 4 in the afternoon, they began by building houses out of the cardboard boxes. The homeless in attendance have a chance to interact with the volunteers where they receive words of encouragement, a warm meal in their bellies, and hope for a brighter tomorrow.

This is a very serious issue. There is a frighteningly high level of homeless people here in Troup County and it is up to us as friends and neighbors to help them out in any which way we can. The TCHC is an amazing group of people who go out and try vehemently to do everything in their power to wipe out homelessness.

Amongst this great project, the TCHC also sponors a food drive for Feeding the Valley, the local food bank, and the “blanket, hat, gloves, socks, and can-opener drive. People are asked to bring donations to the LaGrange Police Department, LaGrange housing authority, Emmaus House, Feeding the Valley, Fellowship Deliverance Outreach Ministries, Ark Refuge, and the government center.

Help us this year by doing your part to try and erase homelessness.
