Couple Arrested On Drug And Gun Charges
Police have arrested a man and woman on drug and gun charges after executing a search warrant at their home in LaGrange.
Thursday morning about 8:40 a.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department Special Investigations Unit and Patrol Division responded to the Tall Pines apartment complex on Turner Street in order to serve a drug related search warrant at the residence.
Police say at the time the search warrant was executed, Charles Christopher McClendon, was found within the residence along with several small children.
During the subsequent search, officers found amounts of suspected marijuana consistent with street level distribution, as well as other drug distribution paraphernalia such as baggies and scales.
McClendon, a convicted felon, was also found with a loaded handgun within arm’s reach at the time of his arrest.
While officers were executing the search warrant, the legal tenant of the apartment, Keyanna Chermaine Hanns, arrived at the residence and was also placed under arrest. Hanns, another convicted felon, was also placed under arrest for the narcotics and gun.
As they continued to investigate the incident, police learned Hanns had active warrants for her arrest from Spalding County and Morgan County. Mc-Clendon was determined to have outstanding warrants through Cherokee County and Clayton County.
As a result, McClendon, age 41, and Hanns, age 37, were arrested and transported to theTroup County Sheriff’s Office where they were booked into the jail and charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Drug Related Objects, and the aforementioned warrants McClendon was additionally charged with Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
Both subjects are currently being held at the Troup County Jail where they were denied bond.
