Police & Sheriff’s Reports

The individuals listed have been cited/arrested/charged in Troup County. However, this is not an admission of guilt. All parties are considered innocent until proved guilty.

• Early Friday morning, just after midnight, LaGrange Police were patrolling the area of Broom Street near the Brickhouse Restaurant when officers heard a loud bang as if a door had slammed.

Police then observed a male, later identified as Zachery Kingston, angrily exit the Brickhouse and kick an object near the door as he left building. Police approached Kingston and observed he appeared to be very upset and stumbled as he was walking.

Kingston also had a strong odor of alcohol about his person, so officers made contact with him and asked what was going on. Kingston admitted that he had been drinking and stated he had become upset over something that happened in the restaurant.

Kingston stated that he did not have any identification on his person and that his friend was driving him home. He also stated his birth date was September 25, 1995 and that he was 21 years old. Police then ran this information and were unable to find him on record.

After Kingston again confirmed the same birth date and stated it was correct, police noticed a bulge in his rear pocket that appeared to be his wallet. Kingston then stated he forgot it was there and removed the wallet. Further investigation revealed Kingston’s birth date was in 1998, making him actually 18 years old.

An employee of the Brickhouse later stated he observed Kingston inside the bar and he appeared upset. The employee stated he observed Kingston slam the door as he left the building and kick a pumpkin decoration near the door. He then followed him to make sure he was leaving until police made contact.

As a result, Kingston, age 18, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail and charged with Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and Obstruction of Officers.

• Thursday night about 11:09 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to the 400 block of Jackson Street in reference to a theft.

Officers arrived and made contact with the complainant, who stated someone had broken into his mailbox and taken his food stamp card. The victim produced a letter and envelope that had contained the food stamp card and stated that he had just checked his mail and found that the door was pried opened. He then discovered the letter had been opened and his food stamp card was missing.

Police observed the damaged mail box, which had tool marks from a knife or screwdriver on the lock mechanism. There were also similar tool marks on the edges of the door.

Officers processed the mailbox for fingerprints, while additional officers assisted the victim in requesting a new food stamp card.

Police spoke with a witness, who stated he observed a known subject standing in front of the mailboxes, attempting to open them by force. The witness stated the he did not observe the subject actually take anything from the mailboxes.

Officers then spoke to the subject seen attempting to force his way into the mailboxes and he denied having done so, but he appeared to deceptive with is answers.

This incident is still under investigation.

• Thursday night about 10:30 p.m., unknown persons initiated a traffic stop in the area of Stonewall Street near Fourth Avenue for a Tag Light Violation on a black Honda Civic.

Officers made contact with the suspect, later identified as Breanna Banae Cherry, who had no license on her person, but stated her name was Yomeisha Holly. Police say Cherry continued using this false name for about 15 minutes before ultimately correctly identifying herself and stating that she did not have a driver’s license.

Police ran Cherry’s information through the Georgia Criminal Information Center and learned her license was suspended for a Failure to Appear in 2014.

During the initial investigation, officers observed an odor of marijuana coming from the Honda, so police requested consent to search the vehicle which Cherry denied.

Cherry was later removed from the vehicle while police were still trying to identify her and she still smelled of marijuana, as did the inside of the Honda.

Officers then searched the vehicle with probable cause and located a digital scale and a bag filled with numerous small green plastic bags, which are both commonly used to distribute marijuana. Police also located a grinder with a picture of a marijuana leaf on it, which appeared to have marijuana residue on the inside. Along with the grinder, officers located a plastic bag filled with suspected marijuana and a suspected marijuana cigarette that was nearly all gone from having been smoked.

Cherry was then placed under arrest for obstruction and drug possession, but denied that any of the items located in the search were hers and kept saying that vehicle was not hers. Cherry stated that the vehicle belonged to her sister, but he sister also denied ownership of any of the items located in the search.

As a result, Cherry, age 26, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where she was booked into the jail and charged with Possession of Marijuana – Less than an Ounce and Obstruction of Officers.

• Thursday afternoon about 12:30 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to the Sun Ridge Apartments on Hogansville Road in reference to a hit and run accident.

Officers arrived and made contact with the female complainant, who stated she parked her black Dodge Challenger at about 5 a.m. and didn’t returned to the vehicle until about noon. Upon returning to the vehicle, she noticed that someone had struck the front right side of the vehicle.

The damage was estimated at about $500.

This incident is still under investigation.
