Marine Corps Reserve And GSP Partner For Toys For Tots

Once again, the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is partnering with the local United States Marine Corps (USMC) League, Detachment #1040 for Toys for Tots this year, hoping to provide children with a special present that will make their Christmas morning a day worth remembering.

The GSP Post #2 in La-Grange will have collection boxes available for donations. Other collection boxes are located at the Troup County Fire Department on Hamilton Road, the Sheriff’s Office, the Cart Barn Grill on Whitesville Road, the Government Center on Ridley Avenue, and another box that will be placed inside Wal-Mart at the Customer Service Center once the toy drive kicks off this Saturday.

The toys that are collected, along with other monetary donations, will be distributed throughout all of Troup County: LaGrange, Hogansville, West Point and the unincorporated area. “Every toy collected through our local toy drive will go to the children in Troup County,” said Senior Trooper George Cotton. This provides those in Troup County with an incredible opportunity to spread the Christmas spirit and give back to their own community this holiday season.

“I count every penny,” Trooper Cotton said, so whether you bring a toy or simply donate leftover change, the GSP LaGrange Post #2 along with the local USMC League will make sure that children all across Troup County have “smiles and not tears” on Christmas Day 2016.

For toy donations, please bring a new, unopened, wrapped toy that can be given to children of various ages. Monetary donations may be given at the toy drives, too. Checks may be written to the local USMC League, Detachment #1040 as follows: Pay to the order of: MLC DET #1040; Memo: Toys for Tots. Once all of the toys have been collected, checks and other monetary donations will be used by area coordinators to buy the items necessary for certain age groups.

The Salvation Army and other United Way agencies partner with GSP and the USMC League to count, sort, and distribute the toys.

Sergeant First Class Maurice Raines along with Troopers from the GSP LaGrange Post #2 will be available to aid with the collection of toys and monetary donations within Troup County. If you or someone you know is unable to find transportation to bring toy donations, GSP is willing to help.

Toys for Tots plans to host this year’s toy drives at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in LaGrange and would appreciate the community’s support and suggestions to boost the effectiveness of this year’s campaign.

Approved dates for the campaign include: Saturday, December 3; Sunday, December 4; Saturday, December 10; and Sunday, December 11. Each toy drive will be hosted between 1-4 pm.

So join the USMC League, who started it all, along with their 6-years strong partners of the GSP LaGrange Post #2, as they invite law enforcement, safety personnel, and the entire community to truly make this the most wonderful time of the year for children in need.
