John 15:13 (KJV) “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
As another Memorial Day passes, this scripture seems to be fitting for people in public service and military service. Many get Memorial Day mixed up with Veterans Day. A quick clarification is, Memorial Day is for the military personal who’ve passed away,Veterans Day is for all military personnel currently serving or out of the service. Both are very important to many people but it is good to know the difference between the two.
Have you ever thought about if you’d be willing to lay your life down for someone? I’m sure that most would quickly say “yes!” regarding their families and children, but would you be willing to lay your life down for a stranger? Someone you didn’t even know. In this scripture Jesus was explaining the depths of the love God has for us,and so I can easily compare when military personnel and public safety lay their lives on the line. They get up each morning/ evening to gear up and head off to training or work to leave their families for ours.
With this article,I’d like to give honor to the fallen soldiers who have died to protect our country. They didn’t even know us or the many American citizens they were protecting and serving from past to present, but they did it knowing it was what needed to be done. We so easily take it for granted that there are men and women skilled and prepared to leave at a moment’s notice to put themselves in danger. There are men and women who are in dangerous places even as we speak, doing what needs to be done. I’m thankful for the men and women who have served in the past just so we could have the freedoms we have today.
On behalf of Christ’s Corner, we would like to show our respect to the brave men and women who have lost their lives and to the families who have lost their moms, dads and other family members. We know they were someone’s brothers, someone’s sisters…someone’s children.
