Local Firefighters Honored at Braves Game

On Thursday, as a part of the Atlanta Braves First Responders Night events at Sun Trust Park, the La-Grange Fire Department was recognized for their efforts that led to saving a family of seven earlier this year.

During the annual event that recognizes police, firefighters, and other emergency service personnel, Kidde United Technologies, makers of fire safety equipment, donated $5,000 to the Georgia Fallen Firefighters Foundation as recognition for the efforts of the LaGrange Fire Department that likely saved the lives of seven people from the Addie Street fire earlier this year.

The March 27 fire totaled the Addie Street home, but the residents were able to evacuate thanks to a free smoke alarm installed by LaGrange Firefighters and American Red Cross volunteers.

Local firefighters and the Red Cross have partnered for several years as a part of the Operation Save-a-Life program. During the program, volunteers canvassed neighborhoods throughout LaGrange to and install free smoke alarms with the consent of the residents. One of the alarms was manufactured by Kidde, so the company made the donation to recognize their efforts.

The money will go to the Georgia Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which works to prevent fire fighter line-of-duty deaths and assists the families and public safety agencies who have experienced a line of duty death.

The local boys could not have picked a better game to attend and take the field. Despite their losing record this year, the Braves managed to beat the first place Nationals 3-2.
