Softball: Judson takes two from Panthers in   non-conference doubleheader

Judson took both ends of a doubleheader from La-Grange on Wednesday. The Eagles took the first game 6-1, then got a walk-off home run to win the second game 3-1. The losses left the Panthers 2-8 on the season.

Game 1- The Panthers outhit Judson 8-6, but stranded eight runners, seven in scoring position. Haley Coleman had two hits, including a double, and a stolen base for LC. Kelsey Dietz also had two hits, while Michaela Keel contributed a double. Katie Glover broke up a scoreless game in the third inning. Glover blasted a three-run home run off starting pitcher Emily Cauldwell (1-4) with two outs to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead. The Panthers got a run back in the top of the fifth. Kelsey Dietz started the inning with a single and stole second. She came around to score on Coleman’s two-out hit to make it 3-1. Judson tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to increase its lead to the final 6-1 margin.

Game 2- McKenzie Brunel went 4-for-4 with three stolen bases to lead the Panthers. Dietz made a nice running catch in right center to take away an extra base hit from Tiffany Watson and save a run in the second inning. In the top of the third, she reached on a two-out error and moved over to third on McKenzie Brunel’s base hit. Dietz came home as Brunel took second on a double steal to put LC up 1-0. Judson tied the game in the fourth on Amanda Rowley’s sacrifice fly. Twardoski worked out of a jam in the fifth. The Eagles loaded the bases with one out, but Twardoski got a force out at the plate and a fly ball out to end the threat. The Panthers loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh but came up empty. The Eagles got the leadoff runner on in their half of the seventh and Ashtin Morris ended the game with a two-run walkoff home run off reliever Josey Wessel.
