Summer Sports in Troup County

School’s out for summer, and for many, that means the end of several sporting seasons in Troup County. With many teams out until August, official schoolsponsored sports may be hard to find.

But Troup County is remaining active with several sporting events across the county.

As previously reported, LaGrange head boys soccer coach Shane Pulliam will soon begin his 3×3 summer soccer sessions that run twice a week during the week for practice with 3×3 games held every weekend. Pulliam has adopted the name “Sea Turtles” for the teams, with different teams being separated based on age.

In addition to the information previously reported at the Sea Turtles, the details about the camp’s location are now known. Each session will be only five dollars, and they will be held at the Troup County Soccer Complex at 299 Fort Drive here in La-Grange.

Open to more than just LaGrange and high school players, Pulliam’s training sessions and 3×3 competition participation give soccer players around the county the extra skills they need to be successful when school starts back.

Additionally, Steve Pardue’s Youth Football Camp recently concluded at La-Grange College. The famed former LaGrange High coach now works at La-Grange College where he, and a few members of his staff, conducted their Youth Football Camp from May 23-25. The camp was designed to give young athletes the skills they need to develop into better players. Taking place at LaGrange College, the camp helped mold the young talent we have in LaGrange from one of the city’s mostrenowned coaches.

Pardue is not the only La-Grange College coach with a camp on the agenda. Head baseball coach David Kelton will be hosting his Youth Baseball Camp June 4-8 and June 11-15. The camps will be held at Cleaveland Field at Phil Williamson Stadium. The camps will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and cost $150.

Kelton has had great success with the Panthers over the past four years and led the team to a 40-6 record in 2017. A former professional baseball player, Kelton is looking to share his knowledge and expertise with La-Grange’s up-and-coming athletes.

The Troup County Parks & Rec Center also offers a variety of sporting and fitness classes/teams for people of various ages.

Travel baseball is set to start soon, and several of Troup County’s prominent high-school players are set to take part in it. The travel ball schedule will be released Monday.

Travel ball will help bring friends from different schools across Troup County and Georgia together in a summer season of baseball fun. Sam Cotton has been and continues to be hosting a “Summer Shootout” in basketball at the William Griggs Recreation Center in LaGrange.
