Sheriff’s Investigators are attempting to determine how a newborn infant ended up in a cooler along a Troup County Road.
The deceased child was discovered Sunday afternoon inside a portable cooler bag off of Boy Scout Road near the wood-line. Witnesses told authorities that the cooler had been on the side of the road for several days, possibly up to a week.
The cause of death is unknown at this time, but an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab. Authorities say the child is Caucasian and possibly a few days to a few weeks old. The gender of the child is unknown at this time.
A press release indicated that cooler the child was found inside was light blue with pictures of watermelon slices. The cooler was said to be a rolling bag that zips up at the top, front and sides.
