Authorities are investigating how a vehicle that was stolen from the Lee’s Crossing area ended up wrecked on the side of the road on Whitesville Road late Wednesday night.
Wednesday night about 9:58 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to Whitesville Road in reference to a stolen vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was recovered by Troup County Sheriff’s Deputies after it was apparently involved in a single vehicle accident in the 3300 block of Whitesville Road.
The vehicle was abandoned and no one was near it when it was found. Georgia State Patrol Troopers investigating the wreck stated it appears that the stolen vehicle had run off of the roadway and struck a tree.
After the vehicle was found, it was determined to have been stolen from LaGrange Nursing and Rehab on West Point Road in LaGrange.
Officers met with the victim, who explained she was in a hurry after arriving late to work and quickly exited her vehicle, leaving her car keys inside and the vehicle unsecured. She stated she later received a phone call from a friend indicating that her vehicle was seen wrecked on the side of the roadway on Whitesville Road. She then responded to the scene and confirmed her car had been stolen and wrecked.
The victim stated that she did not know who had taken her vehicle, but did notice a male in the nearby Arby’s parking lot when she arrived.
The victim’s grey Mercury Grand Marquis had severe front end damage and other damage along the passenger side doors, and had to be towed from the scene.
This incident is still under investigation by the LaGrange Police Department.
