Man Arrested for Pulling Gun in Tennant Dispute

LaGrange Police have arrested a local landlord after he allegedly pulled a gun on his tenant after being told to stay away from the location by a judge.

Saturday morning about 10:10 a.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Juniper Street in reference to a dispute.

Officers arrived and made contact with the residents and their landlord, Justin Leonard Caswell.

The resident advised police that Caswell had shown up prior to police arrival and entered the residence, where he began throwing all their personal items out of the front door. He stated he then told Caswell to get out of the residence, but he refused, so he pulled a knife and told Caswell to leave.

Caswell then reportedly walked outside where he retrieved a 9mm handgun from his truck. The complainant stated Caswell then walked back to the residence, loaded a round into the chamber, and pointed the gun at his head.

A female resident confirmed these statements, only adding that Caswell threatened to kill him.

Police were provided a cellphone video that showed returning from his truck with a gun in his hand and pointing a gun at the victim’s head. He was then seen returning the gun to his truck.

Police spoke to Caswell, who advised he was at the residence attempting to evict the two other subjects. He stated the male pulled a knife on him, so he retreated to his truck and got his gun, which he pointed at the male in selfdefense.

Officers were familiar with the landlord-tenant issue, which has reportedly been going on for weeks. Police say Caswell has been advised by multiple officers as well as a judge to not enter the residence without law enforcement present.

As a result, Caswell, age 36, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with Pointing a Gun at Another and Criminal Trespass.

Caswell was later released from the Troup County Jail on $2,000 bond.
