MSG (Ret) Stanley “Stan” Samuel Smith

MSG (Ret) Stanley “Stan” Samuel Smith, age 55, of LaGrange, GA, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus, GA at 2:00 pm. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services. Stan was born on March 26, 1964 in Rochester, New York; the son of Floyd Jackson Smith and Freida Ayers Smith. Stan graduated from Carver High school in Columbus, GA, in 1982 and had an Associate’s degree in History from LaGrange College. He joined the U.S. Army on August 5, 1982 and retired from the Army on August 31, 2002 as a Master Sergeant. When time would allow Stan enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife, Lynn Weege; his parents, Floyd J. and Freida Smith, his siblings, Tammy Coty, Timothy J. Smith, Sabrina Salas; children, Jessica Salmon, Gabrielle Smith, Jeremy Smith, Samantha Smith; granddaughters, Lilly Coup, Holly Jasensky, Lilly Patton, Riley Lynn Patton; and a previous spouse, Erica VanDyne.

Jane Frances Martin

Baby Jane Frances Martin, daughter of Dr. Robert Ambrose Martin and Casey Cooper Martin, was born on September 17, 2017 and passed away on February 24, 2020.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 3:00 pm at the Rosemont Baptist Church with Pastor Adam Camp officiating.  Interment will follow at Meadoway Gardens.  Family will receive friends at the church on Friday beginning at 1:00 pm until service hour.

Barney Elbert Irving Fuller

Barney Elbert Irving Fuller, age 89, of LaGrange, passed away at his residence on February 25, 2020. He was born on August 11, 1930 to the late John Walter Fuller, Sr. and Ruth Morrow Fuller in LaGrange. He was the owner and operator of Fuller Auto Sales in LaGrange. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sara Gladys Bachelor Fuller; brothers, Carl Fuller, Oscar Fuller, John Fuller, Raymond Fuller; sisters, Sadie Adams, Doris Brooks, Hazel Bailey, Susan Martin. Survivors include his sons, Elbert Fuller (the late Sherron Farmer), Jr., Phillip Fuller; daughter, Cindy Fuller; sisters, Gladys and Ruby; grandchildren, Sarah Fuller; brother in law, Joe Brooks; extended family, Chris Farmer and his family, Margie Hardy and her family; caregiver and friend, Tracy Borden; many friends and extended family. Family will have visitation from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Tim Lamb and Rev. Bob Gulley officiating. Interment will follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Derrick Delon Lindsey

Mr. Derrick Delon Lindsey was the first son of Zora Lindsey and the late Earnest “Cody” Lindsey, Sr., born on June 17, 1968 in LaGrange, Georgia. He was the first grandchild of the late, Estella Heard. He attended Fulton County Schools and graduated from Therrell High School, Class of 1986. In 1987, he enlisted in the United States Navy and later became Reserve. He went on to further his education at the following: Atlanta Metro College, Atlanta Technical College, Georgia State University; and obtained numerous State Licenses. He was employed and later retired from the City of Atlanta. Derrick served his country, community, and family always. He was a loving father, dedicated Baseball Coach, Ultimate Motivator, devoted brother to the Masonic Organization, and true fan to his Atlanta home teams. He was a loving father, hardworking and honest man who always put family first. This is not a sad time for all but a joyous occasion for an Angel God sent to this earth on June 17, 1968; and called to a higher service in Heaven on February 17, 2020. In addition to his father, Earnest, Sr.; he was preceded in death by his grandparents: Earnest Heard, Sr., Estella Heard, and Ruth Lindsey; and uncle, Earnest “Bo” Heard, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memoires, his children: Jovan Roberts, Cyndreka Lindsey, Shunta Jones, Derrenee’ Lindsey, Derrick Lindsey, Jr., D’Cedric Lindsey; grandchildren: Destiny Tucker, Reynard Gifford, Jr., Serinity Louissant, Elijah Scott, Trinity White, Zaire Scott, Gary Thompson, Jr.; mother, Zora Lindsey; siblings: Earnest Lindsey, Jr., Traviera (Robert) Coverson, Maleate (Bernard) Render, and Tish McCutchen. The Celebration of Life Service was Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Confidence Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor David Heard officiated. Interment followed at Southview Cemetery.

 

Katherine Broughton

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at the day.” ll Timothy 4:7-8 Mrs. Katherine Broughton was born March 23, 1926 in the Knotts of Community, LaGrange, Georgia to the late, Frank and Lula Boddie. She united with New Mount Olive Baptist Church. Katherine received her education at the Knotts Community Center. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Jack Broughton. Katherine retired from Milliken and Company’s Kex Plant after forty-five years of service. On Saturday, February 22, 2020; she departed this life at WellStar West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to her parents, and her husband, Jack; she was preceded in death by her son, Wilbur Robertson; two sisters: Lucille Walker and Annie Mae Woodard; and brother, Ernest Boddie. She leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Michael Woodard, LaGrange, GA; daughter-in-law, Shirley Mae Woodard; nieces and nephews: Kathy Woodard, LaGrange, GA; Patsy Anne Gates, Covington, GA; Tanya Bynun, Stevenson, AL; Vanessa Walker, Detroit, MI; Edward Woodard, Jonesboro, GA; Wayne Boddie, Frankie Boddie, Victor Boddie, all of New Britain, CT; Jefferey Boddie, Union City, GA; and Makayla Woodard; special relatives, Eurrie Mae Kelly; and caregiver, Brenda Bray. The Celebration of Life Service was Thursday at 11:00AM at New Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Rufus Smith, Sr. officiated.
