District 4 Public Health to Offer Free COVID-19 Testing in Troup County
As Troup County continues to experience a concerning spike in COVID-19 cases, free testing will be made available to residents at the West Point Tech Training Center on Tuesday, July 7. No ID or symptoms are required for individuals to receive a free test.
Conducted by District 4 Public Health, the free COVID-19 tests will be available by walk-up or by appointment, though preregistration is strongly recommended. Those wishing to register for an appointment can visit covid19.dph.ga.gov.
An alarming spike in COVID-19 cases in Troup County caught the attention of the New York Times last month when LaGrange was listed as one of the fastest-growing COVID-19 hotspots in the country. As of press time, Troup County is at a total of 1336 confirmed cases and 31 confirmed deaths, for a total of 1897 cases per 100,000.
To combat this rise, Troup County is now participating in a communitywide campaign to offer masks to businesses and residents in an effort to reduce COVID-19 transmission. Last week, the “Mask Troup County Campaign” had distributed over 65,000 free masks, with distribution sites at the LaGrange-Troup Chamber of Commerce, Ark Refuge Ministries, LaGrange Housing Authorities, DASH, La-Grange Police Department, LaGrange City Hall, and LaGrange Dairy Queen.
District 4 Public Health’s free testing event in Troup County will be held Tuesday, July 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Point Tech Training Center at 1122 O.G. Skinner Drive in West Point.
