Sea Turtles Soccer Brings Home Championship
The 2020 Sea Turtles summer soccer team took home championship medals following a last-minute rally in the final round of a Montgomery 3×3 soccer tournament on Saturday.
The Sea Turtles made a statement in the opening round of the tournament, defeating A-M FC 06 Boys in a 7-2 rout. They followed their impressive first-round win with two consecutive victories, the first in a 4-2 challenge over CCS 2004 Boys, and the second in an 8-2 blowout over CCSC 03.
The Sea Turtles experienced their first setback of the tournament with a crushing 8-3 third-round loss to Golazo!.
But they weren’t through yet.
The Sea Turtles secured a championship matchup with Golazo! to earn a little 3×3 revenge in the final round. Showing their spirit, the Sea Turtles rallied to score three goals in the final minute to secure the winning 6-5 lead.
Coached by LaGrange High’s own Shane Pulliam, the Sea Turtles have been no stranger to success since the long-time coach introduced 3×3 soccer to LaGrange in 2018. What made Saturday’s matchup special, however, was the fact that the Sea Turtles managed to secure the championship victory without their respected coach on the sidelines.
“I wasn’t there and had nothing to do with it,” Pulliam said, noting that the event was all parent-driven and coached. The arrangement, he said, keeps in line with current GHSA COVID-19 rules. The Sea Turtles coach added that he plans to be involved when the Sea Turtles are back in action in Nashville Under the Lights on July 11.
The Sea Turtles roster for Saturday’s tournament included Pearson Knight, Davis Knight, Ty Ormsby, Romans Outland, Cole Partain, and Chris Moore.
