Suspect Charged with Hit & Run

LaGrange Police have arrested a man for allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident where he rear-ended another vehicle, possibly while racing. Saturday night, about 10:50 p.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department to the 1400 block of Hogansville Road in reference to reports of a hit-and-run collision.

Officers arrived and made contact with the complainant, who had been driving a Jeep Wrangler that was confirmed to have damage to the rear.

The complainant told police that he believed that two vehicles, a black Dodge Charger and a white Dodge Challenger, were racing on South Davis Road behind him traveling towards Hogansville Road from Lafayette Parkway.

He explained that black Charger passed him and continued onto Hogansville Road, but the white Challenger followed closely behind him and struck him from behind in the 1500 block of Hogansville Road.

The victim stated the driver of the white Challenger then pulled up beside him and stopped. When the victim told the male he was reporting the accident, the subject drove away at a high rate of speed on Hogansville Road.

Police confirmed damage on the rear of the victim’s vehicle, as well as white paint transfer and scratches.

Using a tag number captured by the victim, police were able to track the white Challenger to the Whispering Pines apartments on Hogansville Road.

Police spoke with the registered owner, Willie Andrew Thompson, and confronted him with the collision. Thompson admitted to the collision, but claimed the other subject kept “brake checking” him which resulted in him rearending the Jeep.

Thompson told police that he didn’t stop because it was suspicious that the subject kept hitting his brakes and he did not want him to follow them.

As a result of the investigation, Thompson, age 22, was arrested and transported to the LaGrange Police Department, where he was fingerprinted and charged with Hit and Run and Following Too Closely.

Thompson was cited and released due to the ongoing pandemic.
