Mary J. Kirby Bryant

On Monday, July 20, 2020, Mary J. Kirby Bryant, a 1961 graduate of Troup County High School in LaGrange, GA, passed away at the age of 77 in Humble, Texas. Mary was born July 11, 1943 in Roanoke, Alabama to the late Theo L. and Lucy M. Kirby. She received her degree in nursing from Columbus State University and served the city as an RN for nearly 20 years. Mary had a passion for healthy living. She even grew her own vegetables in a garden in her back yard. Family, friends, and passerby’s frequently enjoyed pieces of her harvest each summer. She also loved flowers and plants, filling her yard with everything from mint to tulips. Mary had an infectious smile and a loving, kind and compassionate spirt. Mary was preceded in death by her sisters, Juanita Kirby Massey, Daphine Kirby Brown, Willodean Kirby Green, Dorothy Kirby Newman and Martha Lene Kirby. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Katherine H. and Geoffrey C. Ryan of Humble, TX, son James K. (Ken) Bryant of Kenosha, WI, her brother and sister in law Braxton and Josephine Kirby, her sister Barbara J. (BJ) Kirby and several nieces, nephews , grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.

Jessie Bell Gore

Mrs. Jessie Bell Gore, 87 of Thomaston, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation in Thomaston. Born October 19, 1932 in Danville, Mrs. Gore was the daughter of the late Reuben Bennett Bell and Daisy Bond Bell. She had lived in Lithia Springs for fifty years before making her home in Thomaston in 2012, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Thomaston. She loved her camping club and square-dancing group, and retired from Southern Bell after 30 years of service. Survivors include her husband, Bobby Gore; son, Dennis Gore, both of Thomaston; grandchildren, Hunter Gore and Benjamin Gore; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 3, in the Chapel of Clade A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Bill Barber and the Reverend Ken Hennesy will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

James Allen “Jimmy” Traylor

Mr. James Allen “Jimmy” Traylor, age 74, of LaGrange, passed away on July 29, 2020. Jimmy was born on April 15, 1946 in Centerville, Iowa to the late Gwen Traylor and Aldine Finks Traylor. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired from Stran Steel as a Shipping Supervisor. He was a faithful member of Baptist Tabernacle where he was able to share is wonderful sense of humor with his church family and friends. He greatly loved and was loved by his family. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, a sister, Margaret Raye, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Arrington Traylor; children, Alan Traylor (Suzanne), Ryan Traylor (Dawn) and Brandy Sheppard (Lee); brother, Roger Traylor (Gloria); grandchildren, Mallory Traylor, Colton Sheppard, Makenzie Traylor, Justin Traylor, Macie Traylor and Ella Grace Sheppard; extended family and many friends. Funeral services wereheld on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 11:00 am at Baptist Tabernacle where Rev. Jimmy McMillian officiated. Interment followed at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Family received friends on Friday evening from 5-7 pm at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand, 506 Hill Street, LaGrange.

 

Bonnie Sue Hill (Horne)

Mrs. Bonnie Sue Hill, of Lagrange, passed away on July 29, 2020. She was born in LaGrange on November 8, 1948 to the late Darden and Vera Mae Horne. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother in law, Jasper Lumpkin. Mrs. Hill loved baking for her family. She made wonderful cakes and pies. She was a member of Teaver Road Baptist Church. Mrs. Bonnie Sue Hill is survived by her husband, John Henry Hill Jr.; her son, Danny Hill (Tracie); her brothers, Bobby Horne (Cathy) and Billy Horne; her grandchildren; Taylor Hill and Josh Hill; her sister in laws, Marie Lumpkin, Janet Troyer, Sara Ann Townsend (Harvey Lee), and Connie Marshall (Craig); her nieces and nephews, Jason Cook, Diane Mitchell (Chris), Bobby Lumpkin (Sherma), Christopher Cook (Sharon), Cassie Holmes (Wayne), Ashley Horne, Amber Horne, and Eddy Lumpkin (Christy). The family will hold a graveside service at a later date. Details on the service will be uploaded as they become available. Susan Jones

Mrs. Susan Jones, 79, of LaGrange, GA passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020 at her home. Mrs. Jones was born April 12, 1941 in Chicago, IL, daughter of the late James William Franklin and Dorothy Chesterman Franklin.  She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Talisman Garden Club. Survivors include her husband, James K. Jones, MD; daughters, Alison Brown, Dorothy Jones, and Katie Jones DVM; son, Matt Jones; grandsons, Andy Brown, Brian Brown, and Aulden Jones; granddaughters, Lydia Roush and Evie Roush. A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, LaGrange, GA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wellstar West Georgia Hospice in memory of Mrs. Susan Jane Jones.

 

Eloise Sadler Coker

Eloise Sadler Coker, aged 66, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020, in LaGrange, GA. Eloise was the daughter of the late Mark and Mary Lucy Allen Sadler. She was born on July 31, 1953, in Concord, FL, and was baptized at Concordia Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of forty years, Stephen Paul Coker, of LaGrange, GA; two daughters, Stephanie (Jerison) Speer of Columbus, GA, and Jennifer (Jason) Hudgins of LaGrange, GA; three grandchildren, Maggie and James Speer of Columbus, GA, and Joseph Hudgins of LaGrange, GA. She is also survived by seven siblings, Gail Swicord of Tallahassee, FL, Ted Sadler of Concord, FL, Louise Jones of Tallahassee, FL, Jo Ann Spack of Concord, FL, Helen Varnedore of Thomasville, GA, Sandra Childress of Ft. Myers, FL, and Rickey Sadler of Concord, FL. A private graveside service will be held in Meadoway Gardens, LaGrange, GA.
