LaGrange Police are investigating an incident where a Jonesboro man appears to have been attacked with a baseball bat while trying to break up a fight outside a local McDonald’s.

Early Friday morning, about 2:42 a.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center in reference to the victim of a possible aggravated assault that occurred earlier at a separate location.

Police investigators spoke with male victim, who advised he had come to LaGrange with a cousin and later left his cousin to hang out with unknown people in the area behind McDonald’s restaurant on Commerce Avenue.

The victim told police that he saw a fight between unknown people and that when he tried to break it up, he was struck in the head with a baseball bat. He stated a good samaritan later picked him up near the Dairy Queen on New Franklin Road and took him to the hospital.

As a result of the alleged bat attack, the victim needed multiple stitches to his head.

No description was provided by police for the suspect, though they are believed to be from LaGrange.

This incident is still under investigation by the LaGrange Police Department Criminal Investigation Section.
