Suspect Arrested for Assault with Pipe
A LaGrange man faces felony assault charges after he allegedly struck another man in the back of the head with a metal pipe during a dispute.
Sunday afternoon, about 4:07 p.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to the 400 block of Miller Street in reference to reports of a fight.
Police arrived and spoke with the 30-year-old male victim, who stated that Joseph Lee Williams hit him in the head with a metal pipe.
The victim stated that he was visiting a friend in the 500 block of Alford Street, when he was approached by Williams, who was wielding a metal pipe. Williams then reportedly confronted him about a robbery that allegedly occurred a couple of weeks ago.
During the confrontation, Williams allegedly struck the victim in the back of the head with the pipe during a verbal altercation. Prior to the attack, the victim started recording Williams threatening him. The victim was heard telling Williams to put down the pipe. The video also showed female trying to get between the two men.
Williams then reportedly took off his hat, sunglasses, and shirt before coming toward the victim and striking him in head. The argument then continued until Williams left the location.
Police say the victim had visible injuries to the back left side of his head, but he refused medical treatment.
Williams later returned to the scene and was arrested for the incident.
As a result, Williams, age 35, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with Aggravated Assault with a Weapon.
