Update: Supposed Victim Charged with Robbery

Troup County Sheriff’s Investigators have arrested two men for Armed Robbery, one of whom claimed to be a victim after being shot during the incident.

LaGrange Police originally began the investigation into the incident on Aug. 8 and made contact with Shaton Easter on Hammett Road, where he claimed to have been robbed and shot by an unknown subject near Brookstone Estates. LaGrange Police later turned over the investigation to the Sheriff’s Office, when it was determined that the incident occurred in the county.

A few after the original call, Troup County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 4500 block of Young’s Mill Road in reference to a subject that had been shot.

Upon arrival it was determined that a male had been transported to Piedmont Medical Center, in Newnan, where  he later advised that two black male suspects had robbed him and took an undisclosed amount of cash.

The victim advised that he was struck in the back of the head and kicked numerous times about his body during the assault. He said the suspects were armed with a handgun during the robbery and at some point during the struggle, the firearm discharged striking one of the suspects.

After the gun went off, the suspects fled the area in a dark SUV that had been parked on the side of the road.

With help from the LaGrange Police Department, Sheriff’s Investigators were able to identify Easter as a suspect in the case, who had been treated at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the stomach and released.

Easter was later taken into custody at his residence on Aug. 10 and transported to the Troup County Jail.

Investigators were later able to identify Mikel Jamond Peterson as a second suspect as and he was taken into custody without incident at a local motel on Friday, Aug. 14.

As a result of the investigation, Easter and Peterson were both charged with, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault with a Gun, Aggravated Battery, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime.
