Mrs. Velvie Thomas Foulks, of LaGrange, passed away on September 4, 2020. Mrs. Foulks was born on September 28, 1942 in LaGrange to the late M.S. Brown, Jr. and Ethel Whitley Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Thomas, Sr. and her second husband, Larry Foulks; son, William Eugene “Gene” Thomas, Jr.; brothers, M.S. Brown and his wife Virginia, Danny Brown and David Brown; brother in law, Billy Pope. Mrs. Foulks had been a Real Estate Agent for Daniel Realty. Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Gouchenour; sister, Joyce Pope; sisters in law, Lorraine Brown and Polly Brown; grandchildren, Shannon Prophett (Aaron), Amanda Gouchenour, Laci Phillips (Scooter) and Blade Thomas; great grandchildren, Micah Prophett, Lucah Prophett, Athena Greer, Tristin Greer, Frankie Phillips, Brayden Phillips, Kallie Thomas and Kason Thomas; nieces, nephews, cousins. The family received friends at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand, 506 Hill Street, LaGrange from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2020. The funeral directly followed the visiting hour and was held at the funeral home. Pastor Josh Rye, Pastor Randy Rye and Pastor Max McCord officiated the service. Interment followed at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Marie Harvey Rutledge
Mrs. Marie Harvey Rutledge passed away on September 7, 2020 at her residence in Monroe, Georgia after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Rutledge was born on July 22, 1937 in Meriwether County but lived most of her life in LaGrange. Her parents, Joe Allen Harvey and Elvie Estelle Ward Harvey preceded her in death as well as her brothers, Dwight Harvey, “Little” Joe Harvey and Vance Harvey. Survivors include her husband of over 65 years, Charles Aaron Rutledge; son, Charles Anthony Rutledge (Michelle); daughter, Debra Roberts; grandchildren, Jessica Lewis Melson (Michael), Jill Lewis (Keith), Jennifer Lewis McKinnely (Marcus) and Logan Charles Rutledge; great grandchildren, Madeline Allen and Makaila Trowell; nieces, nephews and extended family. Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Shadowlawn Cemetery, Hillview East with Pastor David Adamson officiating. Nell Gore Pollard
Nell Gore Pollard, age 80, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2020. She was born on October 23, 1939 in Franklin, GA to the late Noah and Eucal Gore of Lagrange, GA. Nell, known as Gammy by her grandchildren, was a short and very sassy lady. She could have an entire room laughing until tears ran down their faces. Don’t let that fool you though, she was a strong woman, very loyal to her family, and crossing her was ill-advised. She is survived by her children: Kim Ayers and Henry “Pete” Pollard Jr.; her granddaughters: Alexandra Pollard, Amanda Ayers, LeAnne Adams, Whitney Pollard, Shelby Pollard; her great grandsons: Seth and Christian Malone; niece: Stephanie Urso; many grandnieces and nephews; and her two cats: Bubbles, 20, and Spunky, 10. She was preceded in death by her husband: Henry B. Pollard Sr.; daughter: Karen Bishop; sisters: Bobbie Dettmar, Jean Gore and Verna “Bebe” Taylor; nephew Richard “Ricky” Dettmar; and her granddaughter Samantha Malone. Graveside service was held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 1:00pm at the Shadowlawn Cemetery, in Lagrange, GA. Family and friends assembled at the graveside. While flowers were appreciated, please consider donating to West Georgia Hospice on behalf of Nell. The staff was very caring of both Nell and her family members and created a wonderful environment for all even in such sad circumstances. Jessica Shelnutt Barnett
Mrs. Jessica Shelnutt Barnett, 37, of Hogansville, passed away Monday, September 7, 2020, at her home. Jessica was born February 7, 1983, in LaGrange, and was a lifelong resident of Hogansville. She was a homemaker, was Baptist by faith, and enjoyed drawing, coloring, writing, and keeping journals. Survivors include her husband, Michael Barnett; daughters, Jaylea Barnett and Julie Barnett; son, Joseph Barnett; mother, Jennifer Williamson, all of Hogansville; brothers, Jeremy Royster of Herndon, VA, Daniel Shelnutt of Carrollton; and nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Allen Shelnutt. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Friday, September 11, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with the Reverend James Calhoun officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside.
Rebecca Bowles Barnett
Mrs. Rebecca Bowles Moore, 90, of LaGrange, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Florence Hand Home. Mrs. Moore was born February 20, 1930, in Troup County, daughter of the late Charles and Addie Brown Bowles. A lifelong resident of Troup County, she retired from the Dixie Division of West Point Pepperell, was a longtime member of the First Christian Church, and had been active in LaGrange Active Life. Survivors include her son and daughter in-law, Lamar and Barbie Whitley; daughter, Dale Hosey, all of LaGrange; brother, Terrell Bowles of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Benji and Cheyenne Whitley, Haley and Alec Akin, Dan Stogner, Michael Bradley; great-grandchildren, Cami Whitley, Ryleigh Jane Akin, Zoie Cline, Grayden Cline, Danny Randall (Trey) Stogner III; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy H. Moore; son, Felton Whitley; granddaughter, Danielle Cline; and son in-law, Clifford Hosey. The funeral service was conducted at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Aaron McCollough, the Reverend Jimmy McMillian, and Bob Humphries officiated and interment was in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange. The family received friends at the funeral home from 2 until 4 Thursday afternoon. Social distancing was observed and the family requests that face masks be worn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Georgia Hospice.
Roy Lee Drake
Mr. Roy L. Drake, 69, of Hogansville, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Hospice LaGrange. Mr. Drake was born March 28, 1951, in Hogansville, son of the late William and Belle Horton Drake. A lifelong resident of Hogansville, he was a retired department manager and was a member of Family Worship Center. He dearly loved his family and especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Lillian Drake of Hogansville; his children, Buddy and Marsha Drake of Covington, LeeAnn and David Prescott, Glenda Cabe, Kenny and Angela Adams, all of Hogansville, Amanda and Steven Young of West Point; brothers, James Drake of Hogansville, Bill Drake of Portland, OR, David Drake of Winston-Salem, NC, Danny Drake of Hogansville, Joe Drake of Moreland, and Ronald Drake; sister, Anne Holtz of Colorado; fourteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and special friends, Wilson, Iris, and Damary Alfaro. The funeral service was conducted at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend James Calhoun and the Reverend Kevin Johnson officiated and interment was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Wednesday night.
