Police & Sheriff’s Reports 09-23-2020

Saturday night, about 7 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to the 300 block of Cherry Street in reference to a residential burglary.

Officers arrived and made contact with homeowner, who stated that sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 6:25 p.m., an unknown person(s) entered his residence by force and took several items.

The victim advised that his house was entered by forcing the side door open. Police examined the side door and confirmed signs of forced entry on the door and door frame.

The victim stated that the suspects took a microwave, valued at $50; an air compressor, valued at $100; and a 40-inch television, valued at $200.

Four large wheels in a guest bedroom were not taken, but the victim advised that it appeared as if the perpetrators attempted to take the wheels as one was found out of place.

Police processed the location for fingerprints before attempting to canvass the area for potential witnesses.

Officers spoke with a neighbor who stated that he did not see anything as he had been cutting grass most of the day.

This incident is still under investigation.

Early Saturday morning, about 12:15 a.m., LaGrange Police responded to the 500 block of Ridley Avenue in reference to a report of an entering auto situation.

Officers arrived and met with the complainant, who stated an unknown person(s) had entered her white Chevy Cobalt sometime between 11 p.m. and 12:12 a.m.

The victim stated that she had just came out to her vehicle, which she advised had been unlocked, and noticed that the passenger side glove compartment had been opened and items were scattered inside the vehicle.

The victim stated that a blue Michael Kors bag, valued at $400; a cream Michael Kors wallet, valued at $200; and an Apple iPhone 7, valued at $700, were stolen from the vehicle. The purse reportedly contained several identification and financial cards as well as several different types of prescription medication.

Police processed the vehicle for fingerprints but did not attempt to canvass the area for potential witnesses due to the late hour.

This incident is still under investigation.

Friday afternoon, about 4:43 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to Belk’s Department store at the LaGrange Mall on Lafayette Parkway in reference to shoplifting.

As a result of the investigation, Jennifer Nicole Hughes, age 36, was arrested and charged with Theft by Shoplifting for allegedly stealing a Goodness and Grace makeup kit, a Define and Glow makeup kit, Makeup Essentials brushes, and Vanilla Sky lip-balm.
